When the drones arrived, the excitement was instant—students couldn't wait to get outside and start flying. After learning the basics of safety and controls, we built an outdoor drone obstacle course with cones, checkpoints, and landing zones. By providing socks and underwear, students created care packages for family members experiencing financial hardship. These items may have seemed simple, but they were essential, often overlooked, and deeply appreciated by those who needed them most. Through this project, students learned that helping others didn't always require grand gestures—sometimes meeting basic needs made the biggest difference.\r\n\r\nAs students assembled the care packages, we talked openly about empathy, dignity, and how communities supported one another during difficult times. Many of my students had personal connections to family members who were struggling, which made this project especially powerful and relevant. It allowed them to take action rather than feel helpless, reinforcing the idea that they could contribute positively to the lives of people they cared about.\r\n\r\nThanks to donor support, this project went beyond providing supplies—it built character. Students gained a sense of pride, responsibility, and connection as they gave back to their families and community. Your generosity helped foster kindness, resilience, and compassion, lessons that will stay with my students long after the care packages were delivered.","fullyFundedDate":1766798334619,"projectUrl":"project/compassion-in-action-comfort-kits-for-o/9910747/","projectTitle":"Compassion in Action: Comfort Kits for Our Families","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Nancy Rubin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9064710_orig.jpg?crop=1024,1024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1786762479431","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dr-rubin"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_45110","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":109,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":83,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":"5.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":73.1,"schoolId":45110,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cypress Run Education Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cypress Run Education Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/broward-county-public-schools/cypress-run-education-center/45110"}
