What a difference having this grant-funded equipment has made! Due to our school being an alternative school we have a lot of data to keep up with to help our students be successful. Generally, we keep behavioral notes on paper and/or on a living document daily. At times this makes it very hard to conduct class and document at the same time.\r\nThe iPad that was funded so generously through you all allowed us to clear away all the chaos that generally happens from trying to keep up with everything at one time. I was able to create a way to document things on the iPad with just one touch of the stylus. This eliminated at least an hour a day from my workload and documenting behaviors. It not only allowed us to document behaviors but the length of time the behavior carried on for and what the antecedents were for the behavior. This gave us a lot of insight into our student's minds, conflicts during the day, and the best learning 'time' of the day for that individual student. \r\nThe other advantage in having this technology was being able to share pertinent information with various providers. We were able to share with our guidance counselors and the school psychologist much more easily than before. Instead of eight or nine different teachers sending in individual notes in 8 or 9 different styles there was one form and it kept track of all the information and even provided graphs and tables. This has also been phenomenal in regards to using the information during IEP meetings.\r\nWe appreciate so much the help you have provided to us in gathering information. The donation not only benefited the students-it has benefited the teachers, parents, and other people involved in the education of our students. They are currently working on DNA sequencing and they will be able to complete the virtual manipulatives on the desktop and then move to the microscopes to see SNA that we extract from strawberries. My visually impaired student has flourished with these additions to the classroom as he was able to use the touchscreen desktop to participate in the virtual manipulation of the brain last unit. This addition to the classroom has cut down on frustrations for this student and he is excelling academically in Biology.
