The students were so excited to see the materials, especially the weighted stuffed animals. We use the weighted stuffed animals throughout the day - as companions during morning meeting, as pillows or stuffies during nap time and for imaginative play during centers. Similarly, the weighted blankets have many uses. Of course, we use them as blankets during nap time. However, sometimes they are burrito wraps or super hero capes to use with co-regulation strategies when a child needs some sensory input to reach or maintain a regulated nervous system. We primarily use the sensory tent during nap time for a specific student who prefers a dark, secluded space. Your generosity allows us to create meaningful learning experiences that combine literacy with hands-on activities.\r\n\r\nWe are using the new resources to create weekly book-and-cooking activities in our classroom. After reading a story together, students participate in a simple cooking activity connected to the book. During these moments, students practice important language skills such as listening, requesting ingredients, describing what they see, and sharing ideas with their peers. One special moment was seeing students excitedly talk about the ingredients and take turns helping mix and prepare the recipe while referencing parts of the story we had just read.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were incredibly excited and curious. Many immediately wanted to explore the cooking tools and flip through the books. Their enthusiasm made the experience even more special, and it sparked lots of new words and conversation!\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue pairing new books with fun, simple recipes each week. These activities will help students strengthen their communication, build vocabulary, and practice working together while creating something they can enjoy. Thank you again for helping us bring these joyful learning moments to our classroom. Your support truly makes a difference for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1766067035914,"projectUrl":"project/cooking-up-communication-books-and-snac/9637834/","projectTitle":"Cooking Up Communication: Books and Snacks for Pre-K Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ali","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9732773_orig.png?crop=364,364,x0,y12&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725998049605","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9732773"},{"teacherId":308165,"projectId":9981064,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for generously supporting our project to purchase a Toniebox system. Students enjoy matching the pictures and talking about where those sounds belong. It has been a simple but meaningful way to connect our study of buildings to real-life listening experiences.\r\n\r\nWe are also using musical puzzles that connect to familiar children's songs. Students work on assembling the puzzle and then sing the song together once it's complete, which builds excitement and reinforces memory skills. Our felt song pieces—especially favorites like \"Five Green and Speckled Frogs\"—have been a huge hit. The children love moving the frog pieces as we sing, making the songs more interactive and hands-on.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the new fidgets have been incredibly helpful for some of our students with special needs. Having something to hold allows them to stay regulated and engaged during music and circle time, helping them participate more fully and confidently.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. They couldn't wait to explore everything!\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue using the puzzles and felt song sets during centers while encouraging students to retell and act out songs independently. We also plan to take short listening walks around our school building to connect environmental sounds to our classroom learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our classroom.
