One of the biggest helps are the reading strips that help the students stay on track while reading. Their biggest enjoyment has come from the spinning reward wheel! They thoroughly enjoy working towards different extrinsic rewards that rotate on the wheel. It has been very nice to see the students engaging in the various new texts! We are excited to share how your contributions have enriched our classroom and positively impacted our students.\r\n\r\nEngaging Learning Environment\r\nOur new whiteboards, markers, and erasers have transformed the way we engage with lessons. Each student feels empowered to participate actively, sharing their thoughts and demonstrating their understanding in real time. The ability to easily display ideas has fostered a collaborative atmosphere where students feel encouraged to express themselves.\r\n\r\nThe Pencil Dilemma Solved\r\nI was once challenged by the issue of ensuring every student had a pencil that stayed in the classroom. The introduction of table caddies has been a game-changer! Each caddy is labeled with its table number and holds pencils, sharpies, erasers, and any specific tools we need for lessons, such as sticky notes or colored pencils. This organization has made a significant difference, allowing for seamless transitions between classes and ensuring students can use pencils.\r\n\r\nAppreciating the Little Improvements\r\nThe students have particularly loved the new pencil sharpener since the old one was broken. It's amazing how these small improvements create a more conducive learning environment.\r\n\r\nReal-World Applications\r\nWe also recently utilized the science posters you helped us acquire during our unit on sound waves. They served as valuable visual aids that complemented our lessons, helping students grasp complex concepts more effectively.\r\n\r\nExciting New Resources\r\nWe are especially eager to incorporate the 3D model of the solar system into our upcoming Earth and Space unit. This hands-on model will allow students to visualize the solar system's structure and scale, fostering a deeper understanding of our celestial surroundings. I can already envision the students' enthusiasm as they interact with the model, making connections that are both tangible and educational.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the hydroponics growing kit will play a vital role in our Genetics unit. It will enable students to explore plant growth and genetics in a practical and engaging way. By observing the growth of plants without soil, they'll gain insights into genetic variations and the impact of environmental factors, making the content even more relatable and applicable.\r\n\r\nYour support enables us to create a vibrant and engaging learning space. I have very sort shelves, and these displays bring the books up to eye level, which of course then catches their attention. I have used them for popular series, as a way to face some books out for their full covers, and to highlight topics such as cooking, a very popular topic in our middle school.\r\nI have seen students overwhelmingly choose books from those displays over the books on the shelves, so I will try to get even more to continue to encourage them to see what's here without having to kneel on the ground to find it.","fullyFundedDate":1761411787415,"projectUrl":"project/lets-get-the-kids-wanting-to-read/9852624/","projectTitle":"Let's Get the Kids Wanting to Read!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Alascia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10326890_orig.png?crop=796,796,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761142942485","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10326890"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_132427","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1400,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":56,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":null,"schoolId":132427,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Middle School of Innovation on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Middle School of Innovation","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/delaware/capital-school-district/middle-school-of-innovation/132427"}
