The resources and supplies that we were able to purchase with this project have had a huge impact in the classroom. We were able to get a small couch to make sitting more comfortable for reading stories. We got so many multisensory kits for letter writing. We use them every day in our writing station to practice all the different letters. We are never bored with writing anymore! We enjoyed the new books as well. We are also well on our way to labeling objects and identifying letter sounds with our mystery boxes. Whenever a box arrived, the students sat in awe and wonder until I opened it! They were so excited with each and every item. \r\nThe big white board is the biggest hit for sure. We have already used it for small group lessons, whole group lessons, individual responses, and collaboration with multiple students. In the attached photos, the students were able to complete a language arts lesson with the white board, markers, and new lowercase letter magnets. Each student got a letter and when they heard their sound, they were able to come up and place it in the word. They also enjoy using this to play school during indoor recess or any time they get a chance! \r\nThis last week we were able to use our individual white boards and erasers. The students were so happy to each be able to show their work, write their equations, and draw their pictures for our math lesson. It was also a great time to allow them to demonstrate respect for all items, new and old.","fullyFundedDate":1760662868434,"projectUrl":"project/mrs-isoms-literacy-learning-expansion/9829559/","projectTitle":"Mrs. Isom's Literacy Learning Expansion","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Isom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7652186_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1625782104590","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7652186"},{"teacherId":10323335,"projectId":9847121,"letterContent":"Thank you for funding my project this year! \"Safe spaces\" has provided my eager Kindergarten students with tools to learn and practice emotional regulation. I have incorporated the regulation tools such as the beanbag chair, breathing board and books into my calm corner in my classroom. Students can use this area and these tools to self regulate when needed. The other items, such as the Little Spot characters, books, and emotion games are so helpful when teaching classroom lessons and small groups. I have only just begun the Comic Book Unit with my 3rd graders and they cannot wait to come back to art to continue their story. Students are developing their original character that they will be using in a comic book spread. \r\n\r\nI had planned on students creating 1 or 2 pages of their book, just to get a spread accomplished. Many have asked how many pages they CAN write. Not \"I'm done, what now?\" or \"How many things do I HAVE to write?\" but, how many pages CAN I write. This motivation is great to see in my students. Students are working on their character designs at home and brining in extra ideas for next art class. I have seen a few students bring in sketchbook they had on their own, already creating characters and wanting to incorporate their own interests into our classroom work. \r\n\r\nThis unit is getting my students excited about writing, reading, and drawing. They are thinking of their artwork in ways they never have before. They are creating their own stories with problems that will need to be solved with creativity and hard work. \r\n\r\nThank you for providing my students with these opportunities.","fullyFundedDate":1760467663389,"projectUrl":"project/fostering-student-voice-through-literacy/9825817/","projectTitle":"Fostering Student Voice through Literacy and Art","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Price","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6777764_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1583202103031","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/brenda-price"},{"teacherId":7655085,"projectId":9835250,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation to our inclusion kindergarten classroom! With your support and help, my students now have access to hands on manipulatives that build strong foundational literacy skills for both their phonics and reading comprehension. \r\n\r\nMy goal for this project was for all my students to have access to tools and manipulatives that open the door for hands on learning experiences. Each new resource helps enhance our science of reading based curriculum and focus. These materials included but are not limited to the Elkonin boxes for writing our CVC words. magnetic wands and chips for segmenting and blending words, and mini mirrors for observing mouth placement for letter sound introduction. \r\n\r\nMany of these materials has become a staple in our classroom environment and daily routines. Students are excited for days that we are introducing a new letter sound during our phonics portion of the day knowing they will be using what we call our \"sound mirrors\". Now, instead of relying on students looking at myself or peers for models for how their mouth should look when forming each letter sound, they are able to use the mirrors provided through this project to observe and view their very own formations. This in return makes the moment all that more meaningful for students. \r\n\r\nAnother material provided through this project and your generosity were advanced phonic word work sets. These magnetic board and the matching letter tiles are used daily as part of our small group or literacy centers time of the day. This tool allows my students with individualized hands on practice to make a variety of consonant- vowel- consonant words with the letter sounds they have learned. Not only does this tool make our small group and intervention time more engaging, but I have seen students phonics skills advance and grow leaps and bounds. \r\n\r\nThe kindergarten students in my classroom are becoming confident readers and gaining the necessary foundational skills to support them the rest of this school year and beyond!","fullyFundedDate":1760834608042,"projectUrl":"project/foundational-skills-for-life-building-l/9835250/","projectTitle":"Foundational Skills for Life: Building Literacy in Kindergarten","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Griffith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7655085_orig.jpg?crop=1356,1356,x230,y147&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760651485521","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7655085"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_97187","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":229,"numTeachers":13,"percentFrplEligible":20,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":29,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - Pre-K","studentTeacherRatio":"17.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.1,"schoolId":97187,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Townsend Early Childhood Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Townsend Early Childhood Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/delaware/appoquinimink-school-district/townsend-early-childhood-ctr/97187"}
