It was truly an exciting moment when the supplies and the digital camera bundle arrived with all the various parts such as the lenses, tripod and many other camera tools. This camera bundle has opened many new possibilities for enhanced artistic experience for my elementary art students. It most certainly has influenced my teaching and curriculum in many positive ways. \r\n\r\nTo start, I now have a high quality camera that can document student art with a much higher quality image. These photos of student art are an important part of student artistic success. As a teaching strategy, students are inspired by the various themes, artistic choices and quality of work to strive for. The images are stored in the class computer and projected for all the students to see during class. \r\n\r\nBut even more, with such a quality digital camera bundle, I have been able to expose students to the world of photography in ways I haven't been able to do in the past. Students have been exploring the historical and cultural impact of photography and photographers. From there, students have been learning about the many camera equipment functions and settings and how to use digital cameras as an arts medium. This is very exciting for students as many have never been exposed to or used such a tool. They hold and experiment with the camera with respect and excitement. As I hoped, many students are starting to see photography as a means of new artistic expression when they are not confident in their drawing or painting skills. And even if they don't have a quality digital camera at home, they now appreciate even more what photography can do. My next steps are to look into using new photography editing software with my students.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the camera bundle, my father has passed away which has deeply impacted my school year. Photos that have captured the story of his life have been a driving force in how I am sharing the power of photography with my students. I feel so fortunate to have been awarded this grant and can't thank you enough for your donation. Education and art education especially never have enough money for basic supplies, never mind supplies for enrichment and extra meaningful activities. Your donation for the camera and all the art supplies, has truly made a difference to my elementary students today and for years to come. \r\n\r\nWith sincere gratitude,\r\nMrs. J.
