The sensory bins I was able to create thanks to your generosity are in high demand! I loved hearing their excited squeals when they first saw the bins. There were also so many exclamations - \"wow!\", \"the sand is so soft!\" and \"look at this!\" Many of my students are working to build their attention as well as their expressive and receptive language. My students have been able to communicate with me & each other while using these bins. You'll see in one of the photos that a student had a fish \"biting\" his finger. This student acted out an entire experience of trying to go fishing and having the fish bite him. It was a wonderful glimpse into his imagination!\r\n\r\nThese bins also provided needed sensory input for my students. You'll see in one photograph that one student realized he could position his arms so that from his elbows down to his fingers fit in the water sensory bin. I think if he could have fit his entire body in there he would! I love being able to provide my students with calming moments that meet their sensory needs; these bins and materials give me that opportunity. The triangle pencils help students properly hold a pencil during these first few months of school. Many students in my class have never held a writing utensil before and proper grip helps with letter formation, illustrating, and preventing fatigue. Students adore their new crayons, which are also used daily for various reading, writing, math, and science activities. The storage boxes that you graciously donated are now student tool boxes and contain all of the supplies that they need throughout the day. The folders are sent to and from school daily with students carrying essential notes and papers that students are proud to show off. Since they are plastic, they will last the entire year. The dry erase markers and erasers are probably our most used item. We use these instead of wasting paper!
