The books were chosen as part of our summer reading assignment. While not all of our sixth graders attend summer school, those that did were able to get a jumpstart on their reading and participate in group discussions about the novel.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, when school began they were able to join their peers in finishing the book and working on projects that focus around the theme and characters. There is not much diversity in our school and that was part of the reasoning behind the selection of Seedfolks and The New Kid. One focuses on individuals who are brought together to build a community garden. Each character's \"story\" is revealed. What their name is, where their family is from, and why they chose to plant what they did. It offered students to learn about triumphs and struggles for a variety of people from many different backgrounds. The students will continue with the second story, The New Kid, which delves into being the new and different kid in a school, will help the students be welcoming and understanding the feelings of someone in this position.\r\n\r\nAgain, my deepest thanks to all those who contributed to this project.","fullyFundedDate":1749658771678,"projectUrl":"project/summer-reading-is-growing-and-learning-a/9329075/","projectTitle":"Summer Reading is Growing and Learning About Ourselves and Others","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vincent","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9457669_orig.png?crop=290,290,x0,y3&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1707076942684","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9457669"},{"teacherId":9455839,"projectId":9238813,"letterContent":"As you can see, the students were very interested in the new biographies for our classroom. The addition of these books sparked excitement in learning about important people in history. \r\nThese books added more choice in selecting a historical figure to research. Also, the books are at a good level for third graders to maintain interest and learn from their reading while researching. \r\nIt's important, as their teacher, that I can provide them with appropriate sources of information so that they can conduct short research projects. Not only do the students write a short report, but they also complete a poster about the person they research, and they report what they learn to their classmates. Thank you for your help by providing these books.","fullyFundedDate":1744238703848,"projectUrl":"project/history-for-children/9238813/","projectTitle":"History for Children","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Medbery","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9455839"},{"teacherId":6683601,"projectId":8966880,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my gratitude for your generous support in providing Where the Red Fern Grows books for my classroom. Your donation has profoundly impacted my students, bringing them an opportunity to dive into the world of literature with a novel that beautifully explores themes of loyalty, love, and perseverance. Many of my students come from backgrounds where access to quality books is limited, and having this classic story in their hands has been a transformative experience. The excitement and enthusiasm in the classroom have been palpable as they connect with the characters and their journey.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has not only enriched their academic experience but also sparked meaningful conversations about friendship, overcoming adversity, and the powerful bond between humans and animals.
