Because of you, my counseling space has become a more welcoming, engaging, and emotionally supportive environment for students who need it most. Your contribution directly impacts students on my caseload who struggle with a variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, social skills development, and low confidence. These new resources have already been woven into my daily work with students and are making a meaningful difference in how they learn to cope with challenges and believe in themselves.\r\n\r\nMy students have been actively using many of the card decks and games to build confidence, practice coping strategies, and strengthen social skills. These tools are especially helpful in teaching students how to develop a growth mindset when facing difficulties. Rather than shutting down or becoming overwhelmed, students are learning that challenges are opportunities to practice new skills and grow. The hands-on and interactive nature of these materials allows students to engage in conversations about emotions and behaviors in a way that feels safe, structured, and approachable. I have seen students open up more readily, reflect more deeply, and take pride in their progress because these resources make learning emotional skills feel achievable and empowering.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, their reactions were full of excitement and curiosity. I use many of the games and card decks during my weekly group counseling sessions, and students consistently describe them as realistic, helpful, and impactful. These resources help establish a clear structure for my clinical sessions and groups while still allowing sessions to feel playful and engaging. One of the most meaningful additions to my room has been the bean bag chair, which has quickly become a favorite among students. I have it tucked into a quiet corner of my office where students can sit when they need a moment to process difficult feelings, calm their bodies, and regroup. This space allows students to regulate their emotions and return to class feeling more grounded and ready to learn. It has become a symbol of safety and support, reminding students that their emotional well-being is valued.\r\n\r\nBy supporting this project, you were given a small peek into my counseling room, but your impact extends far beyond what you can see. The next steps for my students include continued use of these resources in both individual and group counseling sessions so skills can be practiced, reinforced, and applied throughout the school day. In addition, I plan to share many of these materials with my colleagues who are also mental health professionals in our school. By collaborating and sharing these tools, your generosity will ultimately reach even more students and help strengthen the overall support system within our school community.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the importance of student mental health and for investing in resources that help students feel confident, supported, and capable. Your kindness has created a ripple effect that will continue to positively impact students long after this project. My students and I are truly grateful for your support and for the difference you have made in their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1759489503963,"projectUrl":"project/mental-health-matters/9570657/","projectTitle":"Mental Health Matters!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Zlotnick","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9666048"},{"teacherId":10103947,"projectId":9521494,"letterContent":"Thank you so so much for sponsoring this project! Thanks to you, we received a wonderful assortment of resources—food items, stickers, a whiteboard, tissues, The Game of Real Life, a Conversation Game, and a wobble stool—that have already made a meaningful impact on our students.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was palpable. Students were immediately drawn to the wobble stool, wanting to immediately test it out. It's now a favorite for our sessions to keep those that need a little movement to stay focused. The stickers have become a fun and motivating reward system, and the tissues—believe it or not—were met with cheers because they're a small but essential comfort in our space, and way more sensitive than school-issued tissues!\r\n\r\nOne particularly memorable moment thus far was during a social-emotional learning activity using the Conversation Game. Students opened up in ways I hadn't seen before, sharing thoughts and feelings with honesty and empathy. It sparked a beautiful discussion about kindness and understanding, and it's now a regular part of our groups.","fullyFundedDate":1758369871691,"projectUrl":"project/comfort-and-care-helping-students-feel/9615162/","projectTitle":"Comfort and Care: Helping Students Feel Ready to Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maloney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9683376_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x315,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755517967477","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9683376"},{"teacherId":9465294,"projectId":8719365,"letterContent":"Thank you for the items from my gift packages. My feeling flag has helped in sessions several times as students just tend to generalize feelings to common words. By looking at the flag we can pinpoint more emotions impacting the situations and address some deeper feelings influencing them.\r\nThe dice have been great conversation starters and get things going for group discussion. This creates connections quickly.\r\nWe have appreciated these specifically along with the sensory trips students put on the back of their phones.\r\nMy apologies for the delay in this letter, I had thought this step was already completed.","fullyFundedDate":1726502674257,"projectUrl":"project/social-work-support-for-developing-self-/8719365/","projectTitle":"Social Work Support for Developing Self-advocacy and Coping Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cartier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9465294"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43510","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1010,"numTeachers":106,"percentFrplEligible":29,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":71,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"9.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.3,"schoolId":43510,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Edwin O Smith High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Edwin O Smith High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/regional-school-district-19/edwin-o-smith-high-school/43510"}
