As a math specialist, I work with small groups of students across grade levels, and this carpet has already become an essential part of our daily instruction.\r\n\r\nStudents use the carpet as a gathering space for math talks, problem-solving discussions, and hands-on activities. One recent moment that stood out was during a collaborative problem-solving lesson, when students sat together on the carpet to share different strategies and explain their thinking. Having a comfortable, clearly defined space has helped students focus, listen to one another, and feel more confident sharing their ideas.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new carpet, their reaction was immediate excitement. Many commented on how welcoming the space felt, and they were eager to sit together and begin learning. The carpet has helped create a sense of community and belonging, which is especially important for students who may feel less confident in math.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue using this space as we work through multi-step problem-solving tasks, math games, and small-group interventions focused on building conceptual understanding. The carpet allows for flexible grouping and meaningful mathematical conversations that support student growth.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our students a space where they feel comfortable, supported, and excited to learn. Your generosity has made a lasting impact on how math instruction happens in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1765289926309,"projectUrl":"project/a-comfortable-space-for-math-learning/9700326/","projectTitle":"A Comfortable Space for Math Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Distin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8345332_orig.jpg?crop=269,270,x984,y305&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1645913174862","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-distin"},{"teacherId":8345332,"projectId":9427371,"letterContent":"When my students first saw the wobble stools set up in our classroom, the excitement was contagious. Many of them rushed over to try them out, laughing as they balanced and swayed. One student whispered, \"This is the coolest seat I've ever had in school!\" That moment set the tone for how special these stools would be for our learning space.\r\n\r\nWe now use the wobble stools daily during math intervention and small-group instruction. They've made such a difference for students who need movement to stay focused—helping them channel their energy in a positive way while still engaging with their work. I've noticed quieter students participating more, and a few who used to fidget constantly are now more settled and attentive. During one small-group lesson, a student proudly said, \"I can finally sit still and think at the same time!\"\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given my students the chance to learn in comfort while building confidence in their math skills. Our next steps are to keep fostering this focus and independence as we dive into multi-step problem solving and collaborative group tasks. The wobble stools are already helping create a space where every student can succeed, and we are so grateful you helped make this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1757423237780,"projectUrl":"project/wobble-while-we-work-flexible-seating-f/9427371/","projectTitle":"Wobble While We Work: Flexible Seating for Focused Math Minds!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Distin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8345332_orig.jpg?crop=269,270,x984,y305&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1645913174862","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-distin"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_75688","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":217,"numTeachers":15,"percentFrplEligible":26,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":68,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":75688,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Brownstone Intermediate School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Brownstone Intermediate School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/portland-public-school-district/brownstone-intermediate-school/75688"}
