We introduced the materials during morning centers, rotating students through stations that included geoboards, tangrams, pentominoes, magnetic tiles, dominoes, and dice. Students were able to familiarize themselves with each tool and begin using them to model shapes, build patterns, and practice number-sense activities.\r\n\r\nSince then, the materials have been incorporated into small-group instruction and partner tasks. For example, students used tangrams and pentominoes to complete structured puzzles that supported problem-solving and logical thinking. The manipulatives have helped students better understand visual and hands-on representations of concepts, and they allow for more differentiated practice.\r\n\r\nOur next steps will involve using these resources to support units on area, perimeter, and fractions. Students will use the tiles and geoboards to create models, compare strategies, and apply concepts during center-based activities. These tools will continue to help provide clear, concrete experiences that strengthen students' understanding of key math ideas. Being able to choose what story they would like to hear is one way to increase their autonomy within the school day. Other students who have learning disabilities have a hard time reading and don't willingly participate in reading activities.
