Your donation has made a real, tangible impact on our French classroom and on my students.\r\nBecause of your kindness, we received a beautiful collection of accessible and engaging French books, including the Qui parle français series, which introduces students to influential French-speaking figures from around the world. These books became of our morning routine, as I used them to create \"do-now\" activities that enriched our class with cultural knowledge learning about francophones from fashion icon Coco Chanel to the singer Stromae's influence on contemporary Francophone music. These short but powerful introductions sparked conversations and opened up a new appreciation for the richness and diversity of the Francophone world.\r\nAdditionally, your donation brought us French learner favorites like Meurtre à Montmartre and Meurtre rue Saint-Jacques, murder mysteries written in easy French. These books were very popular. Another exciting addition to our classroom library was the inclusion of Tintin comic books, including On a marché sur la lune and L'Affaire Tournesol. The vivid illustrations helped readers decipher the text. Students were often surprised by how much French they could understand, which helped boost their confidence in French class. \r\nHaving a classroom library allowed my students to explore French on their own terms. With access to a variety of texts, they were able to choose books that matched their interests and comfort levels. This autonomy encouraged self-directed learning and fostered a sense of ownership over their language journey. For many, this was their first experience reading in a foreign language outside a textbook—and it was joyful.\r\nReading in a second language supports so many crucial skills: vocabulary retention, grammatical pattern recognition, and reading comprehension, to name a few. But beyond that, it brings the language to life. It helps students see French not just as a school subject, but as a vibrant, expressive tool that real people use to tell stories, solve mysteries, and share their lives. Our reading time became a much-anticipated part of the week—a calm, focused space where students could lose themselves in the rhythm of French.\r\nThanks to your support, my students discovered a world beyond the walls of our classroom. They engaged with French in ways that were meaningful and memorable. You didn't just fund books—you helped build confidence, curiosity, and joy.\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of each and every student: merci. You made a difference and for that I will always be grateful.\r\nAvec mes sincères remerciements,","fullyFundedDate":1740752528731,"projectUrl":"project/unlock-a-world-french-adventures-fund-o/8916588/","projectTitle":"Unlock a World French Adventures: Fund Our Classroom Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thomas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9824475"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43474","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":483,"numTeachers":52,"percentFrplEligible":20,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":66,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"9.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":40.0,"schoolId":43474,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Central Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Central Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/greenwich-public-school-district/central-middle-school/43474"}
