I have swapped out the old mats we had been using for these beautiful new mats. Not only are they safer and cleaner (the old mats were ripped and flat, without sufficient padding) but they are so much more colorful! The students have commented on how nice they both feel and look. \r\n I have replaced the mats under the swing as well as the trampoline, allowing the children to utilize those pieces of equipment with better peace of mind for their safety. In addition, we are able to have a long mat through the center of the room in which to create obstacle courses on or allow students a clean and soft surface to sit or lie down and perform exercises. As a parent myself, I know how important it is to provide students with surfaces in which I would be comfortable with my own children working on. \r\n I hope you know that I truly appreciate that you chose my project as one you contributed to. I know these will provide safe surfaces for years to come. Many of my students learn best through movement, touch, and visual supports, and these materials have helped bring their learning to life in a way that paper-and-pencil tasks alone often cannot.\r\n\r\nThe Mad Matter has been especially powerful for supporting fine motor development and sensory regulation. Students are able to squeeze, mold, and shape the material, which helps strengthen their hand muscles for writing while also giving them a calming sensory outlet. Many students who previously struggled to stay engaged during structured tasks are now more focused and willing to participate when they have this hands-on tool available.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic letters have made a big difference in early literacy instruction. Students are able to physically build words, sort letters, and practice spelling in an interactive way. This allows them to see and touch the structure of words, which supports letter recognition, phonics skills, and early reading development. It also encourages collaboration when students work together to form words.\r\n\r\nThe tracing books have helped students build confidence in their writing skills. They provide guided practice that supports proper letter formation and fine motor control. Because students can see their progress right on the page, they feel a sense of success and are more willing to keep practicing.\r\n\r\nOverall, these resources have created more opportunities for my students to learn through play, explore concepts in a meaningful way, and build confidence in both literacy and fine motor skills. Most importantly, they help students feel successful, which increases their motivation and willingness to learn each day.","fullyFundedDate":1733867182557,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-needs-self-contained-classroom/8791522/","projectTitle":"Sensory Needs-Self-Contained Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Yanez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8943955_orig.jpg?crop=1230,1230,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1677775208512","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/brendayanez"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43444","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":450,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":69.3,"schoolId":43444,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hayestown Ave Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hayestown Ave Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/danbury-public-schools/hayestown-ave-elementary-school/43444"}
