I have also noticed that students are excited to use the rug, which creates opportunities for movement and interaction throughout the school day. By providing students with a space that feels different from their individual work areas, the rug helps create a natural transition between independent learning and group learning.\r\n\r\nThe rug has also contributed to building a stronger classroom community and creating a more welcoming learning environment. Gathering together on the rug allows students to interact with their classmates, listen to one another, and feel like they are part of a classroom group. It creates a warm and inviting area where students can feel comfortable sharing ideas, participating in conversations, and learning from one another. For first-grade students, having a designated community space helps establish a sense of belonging and encourages positive relationships. The calming stickers have helped students to use calming strategies and work as desk fidgets also. The storage cart is helping store shared class supplies so students know where to go if they need something. \r\n\r\nOur most used items have been our clipboards. We do a lot of writing and drawing at the carpet and around the room/school. I love hearing them answer the questions I ask at this station working on listening AND speaking skills. \r\n\r\nMy students who don't have access to technology at home are especially in love with this station because they don't get to use a Toniebox at home! During free choice time they love to listen to stories and songs using it in another way!
