I have used the books, like, Be a Maker, to start the class and get the kids thinking about creativity, imagination and how making mistakes is part of learning.\r\n\r\nStudents built bridges for a train to travel underneath and support weight using the Keva planks and Legos. We also used Legos to create animals that represent the student. The Pix Brix Puzzle Bundle has been very popular for students to create in addition to helping with fine motor skills. The only challenge is telling students all the brixs have to stay at school and they can not take them home.\r\n\r\nWe used the book, Balloons Over Broadway to get students excited about the Macy's Day parade. The Media specialist read the book with students, then had them plan their float design and then they created their float in class. Each class had a mini parade, they put their float on a Sphero and guided it or programmed it to go down the hall and into the media center. The students displayed their creativity and we also discussed friction, surface area and weight of the floats.\r\n\r\nStudents were so excited to use the Keva Maker Bot Maze. Students worked together in groups of 3-4 to create a maze for a bristle bot. They referred to the diagram for ideas and then many of them made changes and modifications after they observed how the bristle bot moved. I overheard a student say, \"This is the best! Can we do it again next week?\" One group started with 3 students and then grew to 8 students because they were so engaged and having fun while working together!\r\n\r\nI want to thank you so much for your generous donation and support. I have really enjoyed seeing the students excited for learning and working together.","fullyFundedDate":1728876048012,"projectUrl":"project/teaching-cooperation-and-communication-t/8577270/","projectTitle":"Teaching Cooperation and Communication through Creating","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Martinez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9633308"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_47770","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":395,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":55.6,"schoolId":47770,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dillon Valley Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dillon Valley Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/summit-school-dist-re-1/dillon-valley-elementary-school/47770"}
