With your donations, I purchased over twenty different titles of young adult realistic fiction, nonfiction, and graphic novels for my students. We devote 15 minutes of every school day for independent reading, and having quality books at my students' fingertips is essential for building their literacy skills and desire to be lifelong learners.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, I was able to purchase a class set of the dystopian novel, The House of the Scorpion, with your donations. This multi-faceted novel provided depth and creativity for my students, as we considered character point of view, elements of dystopia, themes, and character development over time. We engaged in rich discussion about morals, responsibility for others, immigration, corruption, and quality leadership. Your donations enabled me to provide each student with a copy to read.\r\n\r\nThank you for caring so well for us.","fullyFundedDate":1727462752726,"projectUrl":"project/build-our-reading-library/8575445/","projectTitle":"Build our Reading Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Peck","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9632740"},{"teacherId":3474154,"projectId":8571305,"letterContent":"This fall, my three 7th Grade Language Art classes read Peak together as a class, which supported students in understanding and practicing how to talk about literature. Peak is a high interest book for middle schoolers, with numerous opportunities for students to explore themes and learn more by researching book-related topics about mountain climbing, Mt. Everest, and culture in Nepal and Tibet. Students created \"one-pagers\" about theme, as shown in the pictures. They also created a \"fan fiction\" piece in which they wrote what they imagined an additional \"chapter\" of the book would include. Several students were excited to read a sequel as a book of choice. It always warms my heart when kids are motivated to read! Peak will be a hit in the years to come.\r\n Most of the Alan Gratz books have become a part of my classroom library. Many students enjoy reading his historical fiction novels. Specifically, the copies of Refugee will be put to use when we return to school in January as part of \"book club\" groups for my Advanced 7th Grade Language Arts class. Students will read the book and research the experiences of real life refugees through biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs. I'm looking forward to teaching the research process with Refugee as an anchor.","fullyFundedDate":1727461834745,"projectUrl":"project/help-build-my-7th-grade-library/8571305/","projectTitle":"Help Build My 7th Grade Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Schmidt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3474154"},{"teacherId":9632737,"projectId":8575788,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the generosity of the Donor's Choose community. Your support of teachers and students is both greatly needed and appreciated. Often the needs of students do not meet the available budget, so additional support from Donor's Choose is vitally important. \r\n\r\nThis year our district provided new iPad to students, which is obviously a great benefit to students. The new iPad did not have a traditional headphone jack however, so the headphones that students had or that teachers had in their classrooms for use no longer worked. Many students use the audio feature for extended texts and also use speech-to-text. While many students use these features, students with Individualized Education Plans, 504s, or READ plans require the use of audio and speech-to-text. The headphones with a USB-C cords and audio jack to USB-C adapters provided by Donor's Choose has been vital to ensuring that students can access and create content with their iPads.
