The digital scales you funded have already had a big impact on our students' learning and engagement.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the new scales to learn how to measure mass precisely and to switch between different units of measurement. Students have been practicing techniques like \"zeroing out\" the scale, using containers for materials, and recording accurate data. These skills have added a level of professionalism and confidence to their lab work.\r\n\r\nOne of the first major projects we used the scales for was during our thermal energy unit. Students had been learning about how thermal energy transfers and how insulation can slow that process down. For their summative project, they designed and built \"penguin igloos\" — small insulated shelters for penguin-shaped ice cubes. The goal was to keep the ice cubes from melting as long as possible under a heat lamp.\r\n\r\nBefore and after the 20-minute heat test, students used the digital scales to measure the mass of their ice cubes. Then, they calculated the percentage change to determine how well their designs slowed the transfer of heat. It was such a powerful moment to see them applying what they'd learned in a real, hands-on way—and having fun while doing it!\r\n\r\nSince then, we've used the scales in several other labs and inquiry-based projects, and they've even been borrowed by other classrooms. These tools have opened up so many new possibilities for us, and they're getting constant use.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting our classroom and helping make science more hands-on, meaningful, and exciting for our students!","fullyFundedDate":1733099433289,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-young-scientists-with-digital/8582049/","projectTitle":"Empowering Young Scientists with Digital Scales","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Willis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7197076"},{"teacherId":7020827,"projectId":8584574,"letterContent":"I wanted to send a heartfelt thank you for supporting my classroom project \"Fidget and Flourish\".
