Being in a title one school, my students often miss out on learning opportunities available to others. Our school spends so much time, energy, and resources on math and literacy that science has to sometimes take a back seat in funding. \r\n Your generous donation brought science to the forefront for my students this year as we dove into a unit of study on owls. After observing the owl's beauty and strength, we discussed its role in the ecosystem and its position in the food chain. Our unit of study culminated in the owl pellet dissection. For over two hours, my students were deeply engaged in the dissection, fascinated by their discovery of bones and reconstructing the skeletons to uncover the owls most recent meal. \r\nThis owl pellet activity brought the joy of science learning to my students leaving them wanting more! Your donation was not only generous, it was deeply and profoundly impactful! The students know they have a safe space to go when they need time to calm down, regulate, and process their emotions. What an incredible gift, and it will continue to impact our students for years to come.\r\nI don't know that many people realize that teaching has become so much more than preparing academic lessons in reading, writing, and math. We are trying to support children who may arrive at school trying to process trauma, neglect, hunger, homelessness, and other factors inhabiting their ability to learn.
