We started a new reading curriculum this year that my students are really engaged in. In the reading program my first graders are learning about Ancient Civilizations, the human body and many more beneficial lessons. By the use of the I-Pad my students are able make their own digital stories and illustrate their digital stories that we can print out and make a classroom book. They will also be able to share their stories with myself, classmates and their families to read. \r\nIn math, my students are able to do digital work places with our Bridges math curriculum. \r\n\r\nI have also received some hands on stem activities to help my students with socialization such as, Magnetic Gears and Magnetic Tiles that they are able to use their creativity while learning! We have had some cold weather and have been able to take full advantage of these activities. \r\n\r\nI also received prizes for my classroom. I focus on positive reinforcement in my classroom rather than the \"bad behavior\" in my class. My students are able to earn \"classroom money.\" My students have had the opportunity to spend their money on classroom incentives such as lunch with teacher, sit with a buddy, as well as purchase products from my treasure box. I have one student that this has actually changed his decision thinking. In the past this student would have behavior issues and spent time in the office. This year he is so interested in collecting and saving his classroom dollars. When he was able to spend them, he actually bought things for his brother and a classmate also. At that moment, I was so overjoyed with his giving nature and prouf of the choices he is making this year compared to last year. \r\nSo thank you, thank you, thank you for the opportunity to help my students reach their academic and and social needs these skills that they are learning will allow them to apply in their bright future.","fullyFundedDate":1723138438038,"projectUrl":"project/creating-fun-and-engaging-lessons/8562593/","projectTitle":"Creating Fun and Engaging Lessons","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kincaid","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9297282_orig.png?crop=505,505,x59,y185&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1695616749558","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9297282"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_70338","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":368,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":43,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":50,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.2,"schoolId":70338,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Desert Sage Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Desert Sage Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/pueblo-county-school-district-70/desert-sage-elementary-school/70338"}
