I am always deeply appreciative of each and every person who donates to fund my projects on Donors Choose. Teaching can be really tough, so having people who are willing to donate day to day items to my classroom really means the world. It is crucial for students to have access to things like headphones and expo markers, but families in certain areas are not always able to provide these things. These tools are used every day in our classroom and help us with math, writing, and learning online. \r\n Additionally, the SEL books such as \"My Body Sends A Signal\" have been wonderful for read- alouds. Students enjoy being able to identify with the characters and discuss how we can keep our bodies calm at school. The sight word flashcards have been wonderful for my intervention groups! We are learning a lot of words and using them in our writing. Finally, we have been practicing kind words and helping others to earn our new fidgets and play doh in our prize box! \r\n Again, thank you so much for your contribution.","fullyFundedDate":1727462964121,"projectUrl":"project/new-materials-for-learning/8578042/","projectTitle":"New Materials for Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. C","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7905232_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691786870133","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7905232"},{"teacherId":9237243,"projectId":8577633,"letterContent":"Students have asked for a long time to participate in activities that are fun, engaging, and also related to art. The focus in so many classrooms, not only during content time but also during intervention time, is always (understandably) dedicated to academics. With this in mind, it often seems difficult for some educators to integrate some of that fun time that students are craving, and I believe in the importance of finding a way to do so, not only to engage students but also to let them know that we have heard them and value their input.\r\n\r\nPrior to Thanksgiving break, my teammate and I planned a simple activity for students to practice their reading and writing skills and to unleash some of their untapped creativity. We talked to them about what it means to be thankful and encouraged students to think about some of the things they are thankful for. Immediately they started naming things like mom, dad, friends, pizza, food, pets, dogs, cats, recess, teachers...and so many others! We encouraged them to start thinking about their academic goals at the same time by sounding out those words. Dog...D. O. G. Cat...C. A. T. They were on a roll!\r\n\r\nThat day we had brought in a bunch of new art supplies, and I saw their eyes light up as soon as they saw them. After they started sounding out the words they had given us, they saw that we had pictures of turkeys to pass out, and the excitement built as they started putting it together. The plan was for each student to fill out six turkey feathers with things they were thankful for, paste them to the turkey, and then color it using the new markers and supplies we provided them. It seemed like such a simple task, one I did myself when I was their age. But the joy and happiness they had on their faces when they saw they got to do an art project was something I hadn't seen in a long time with this particular group of students. In fact, it also made me smile more than I had done in a really long time.\r\n\r\nIt was such a simple task, with everyday supplies and things that so many people seem to take for granted. But the smiles on those faces was something that I myself am grateful for, and I always will be. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to support this task with my students. I can't wait to see what else they learn while they're having fun!","fullyFundedDate":1727462640399,"projectUrl":"project/filling-in-the-social-emotional-gaps/8577633/","projectTitle":"Filling in the Social Emotional Gaps","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gallegos","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9237243"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41229","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":378,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":77,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":39.4,"schoolId":41229,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Meadow Community School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Meadow Community School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/mapleton-school-district-1/meadow-community-elementary-school/41229"}
