Having the proper supplies on hand means I can spend all of my time with students focused on supporting their reading and writing.\r\n\r\nAs I support students in reading comprehension, having whiteboards to model notetaking techniques, and to then have students practice those same skills, not to mention all of the complementary supplies that go along with using whiteboards, such as markers, erasers, and cleaning solution, is essential. Digging down into a text is at the heart of helping students with reading comprehension, which entails locating key ideas (highlighters and pencils), taking focused, accurate notes in an organized fashion (paper, pencils, whiteboards, erasers, markers, cleaning solution), and then using those notes to craft a written summary or response to a comprehension question (paper, pencils, erasers). \r\n\r\nAdditionally, I work with students on filling in gaps in their phonological awareness skills, which means working intensively on phoneme practice. To accomplish this, I employ phoneme cards, markers, and organizing boxes to keep the phoneme cards logically organized by phonemic pattern.\r\n\r\nAll of these activities require considerable organization and the use of expendable office supplies, such as organizing boxes, paper, pencils, markers, whiteboards, and erasers. While these may seem quite basic, they are the tools that allow me keep my students working steadily in the time I have to support their learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me accomplish that!","fullyFundedDate":1727462834502,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-literacy/8576603/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wolken","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9221285"},{"teacherId":9228493,"projectId":8575847,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support of our middle school Careers in Construction class. With your contributions, we were able to purchase craft sticks, hot glue, and foam board for hands-on projects that truly brought learning to life. Our students designed and built bridges and tiny houses, combining creativity with real-world skills. These projects not only engaged their imaginations but also deepened their understanding of math, engineering principles, and teamwork in ways that traditional lessons simply cannot achieve.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your generosity extends beyond the classroom. As the students tackled these challenges, they learned valuable problem-solving skills and developed confidence in their ability to think critically and execute their ideas. For many, it was their first experience building something tangible from start to finish. These activities sparked discussions about careers in the construction trades, inspiring a new appreciation for these essential fields and the opportunities they offer.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, these students are heading to high school with a stronger foundation in STEM concepts and a heightened awareness of vocational pathways. Your support has opened their eyes to potential futures in architecture, engineering, and construction, setting them on a path of curiosity and possibility. On behalf of our class, thank you for investing in these young minds and for helping to build not just bridges and houses, but brighter futures.","fullyFundedDate":1727462579240,"projectUrl":"project/learning-life-skills-through-constructio/8575847/","projectTitle":"Learning Life Skills Through Construction!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Bethke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9228493"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41823","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":275,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":43,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":80,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.5,"schoolId":41823,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Manitou Springs Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Manitou Springs Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/manitou-springs-school-district-14/manitou-springs-middle-school/41823"}
