Your kindness has made a real difference for my elementary students in our SED program.\r\nThe Headphones: Opening New Doors to Learning\r\nThe headphones with microphones have been transformative for my students. With the text-to-speech feature, students who struggle with writing are now able to compose sentences and paragraphs with newfound confidence. They speak their ideas, see them appear on the screen, and suddenly writing feels possible. The noise-canceling feature has been equally important—it helps my students focus and block out distractions, which is crucial for learners who need extra support staying on task.\r\nEvery day, students eagerly put on their headphones to listen to computer-based directions independently. This has given them more autonomy in their learning and has helped them build the executive functioning skills they need to succeed. What once required constant teacher support is now something they can do on their own, and I can see their pride growing with each small victory.\r\nOur School Store: Real-Life Lessons in Money Management\r\nThe toys and items for our school store have created something magical in our classroom. Each week, students earn \"money\" for being safe, completing their work, and making good choices. On Fridays, the excitement is palpable as they decide whether to spend or save.\r\nThrough this simple system, my students are learning invaluable life skills. They're practicing addition and subtraction with real purpose. They're learning to delay gratification when they're saving up for something special. They're experiencing the satisfaction of working toward a goal and achieving it. For students who often face challenges and setbacks, this consistent opportunity to succeed and be rewarded has been incredibly powerful for their self-esteem and motivation.\r\nThese materials have done more than just add resources to our classroom—they've created opportunities for growth, independence, and joy. My students are more engaged, more confident, and more excited about learning than ever before.\r\nThank you for believing in my students and investing in their future. Your generosity has created moments of success that these children will carry with them far beyond our classroom walls.\r\nWith heartfelt gratitude,\r\n\r\nAngel Spangenberger\r\nNOVA Center","fullyFundedDate":1757683053587,"projectUrl":"project/kindness-crusaders/9675186/","projectTitle":"Kindness Crusaders","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Spangenberger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4474720"},{"teacherId":7943980,"projectId":8564166,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom has been transformed into a more engaging, exciting, and empowering space for learning!\r\n\r\nWhen the new resources arrived, my students could hardly contain their excitement. The moment the boxes were opened, there were gasps, wide eyes, and lots of \"Wow!\" and \"Is this for us?!\" It felt like a mini holiday morning! One student hugged a box of supplies and said, \"This makes me feel like school is really for me.\" That moment alone was unforgettable.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the materials, we've already put them to good use. One specific project that stands out was during our social-emotional learning time. Using the new tools—like sensory items, calm-down kits, and reflection journals—students have started creating \"Peace Corners\" and personal check-in spaces. One student shared that having a fidget and journal during tough moments has helped them \"feel calmer and ready to try again.\"\r\n\r\nIn another moment during our class store (used as a Positive Behavior Incentive System), students used the newly stocked items as rewards they had earned. The pride they felt in \"purchasing\" something with points they had worked hard to earn was a beautiful way to connect effort, responsibility, and celebration.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we're diving into a unit on empathy and communication. The SEL materials you helped provide will continue to be used daily in role-playing, reflective journaling, and partner discussions. These tools aren't just supplies—they're making a lasting impact on how my students understand themselves and others.\r\n\r\nThank you for bringing joy, curiosity, and a sense of belonging into our classroom. Although the work we do with students is so much more than just the materials, the sensory regulation and creativity facilitated by these supplies helps to set students up for success and support meaningful progress in an important way. \r\n\r\nIn particular, students have consistently utilized the sensory wall lights in my office for imagination and regulation on times of joy and crisis. Seeing the impact of this simple addition to my office has been highly encouraging and it has aided in many important conversations. The stick-on chalkboard wall strips have also been a great addition to our new sensory space, The Zen Den. Students consistently use this space, and it has become a favorite alternative space when the classroom becomes overwhelming. \r\n\r\nFinally, I would like to extend my gratitude for your support on behalf of our students, many of whom feel like they have been excluded from educational setting. We are a small, separate school setting in which students with significant emotional and behavioral challenges are placed through the IEP process. By addressing student regulation and increasing relational connection between students and staff, our school is able to help students become resilient and grow to reach their full potential. \r\n\r\nAs one of the school's mental health providers, my office often functions as a respite for students needing time and space to regulate before returning to class or facing whatever stressor prompted their dysregulation. Being able to fill my office with physical tools, such as Legos and various sensory items, is a key component of helping students access a regulatory state in which they are able to process what is going on. With these tools to help them cope, they are able to engage in meaningful conversation and self reflection. \r\n\r\nAnother key component of my job as a school psychologist is to support proactive social-emotional learning opportunities. Many of the resources in this project, including games and books, have greatly supported my ability to provide engaging learning opportunities during small group and whole class lessons. Being able to garner student buy-in with fun and rewarding activities is of the utmost importance because it facilitates a much greater degree of learning retention of concepts. Furthermore, the games have been a great way to promote prosocial engagement between students!\r\n\r\nIt truly takes a village to support our students, and it means the world that there are others out there who are willing to lend a hand!","fullyFundedDate":1723468049624,"projectUrl":"project/relate-and-regulate-social-emotional-le/8582533/","projectTitle":"Relate and Regulate: Social-Emotional Learning Toolkit","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Desloge","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9297603"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_127886","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":21,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":70,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":127886,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about NOVA Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"NOVA Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/littleton-public-school-district-6/nova-center/127886"}
