These new kits and board games have transformed complex concepts like radiometric dating and Stellar Evolution into collaborative, game-based experiences that my students find both accessible and fun. While our previous M&M models were a 'tasty' tradition, they were expensive and difficult to sustain across multiple class sections. These durable models allow me to either replace the original candy lab or reinforce the concepts through a different lens. They are also much easier to have on hand for make-up labs, ensuring that every student gets the same high-quality, hands-on experience regardless of their schedule.\r\n\r\nBy interacting with these models, the abstract evidence for our solar system's history finally 'clicked.' It was rewarding to watch students more accurately and confidently use their radiometric data to explain complex events like accretion and the formation of the moon. As they collaborated to solve the puzzle of our cosmic origins, they weren't just learning facts; they were acting as true investigators and building the critical-thinking skills necessary to analyze real scientific evidence.\r\n\r\nThese kits have provided a vital foundation as we move into our most critical units: climate change and Earth's systems. The same data-analysis skills students used to model the ancient past will now be applied to understanding modern feedback loops and the rapid shift in our global climate. By mastering how to interpret scientific evidence through these hands-on models, my students are better prepared to tackle the complex questions surrounding human impacts on our environment. Your generosity is helping me shape a classroom of informed, critical-thinking citizens.","fullyFundedDate":1758230877224,"projectUrl":"project/cosmic-curiosity-exploring-the-universe/9487441/","projectTitle":"Cosmic Curiosity: Exploring the Universe, Here on Earth","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. DuRoss","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9639696"},{"teacherId":9639696,"projectId":9679941,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity! My students gravitate toward these games during their spare time. It has been incredible to watch those who don't normally speak to one another suddenly connecting over a shared challenge. These resources have even changed my own relationship with my students; when they challenge me to a game of Genius Star, we become partners in problem-solving. I recently spent time stumped on a puzzle with a student until another classmate jumped in to help. It was a wonderful moment to step back and recognize the unique logic and perspective he brought to the table.\r\n\r\nBeyond the competitive games, the OuiSi cards have been a versatile and creative tool. I've watched students pull multiple cards as inspiration to design and draw entirely new organisms, and I frequently use the cards as a \"check-in\" tool by asking students which image they connect with most that day. Whether it leads to a deep discussion or just a quick moment of reflection, these cards have added a beautiful layer of mindfulness to our classroom.\r\n\r\nYour gift provided more than just entertainment; it created a space for creativity, connection, and critical thinking.","fullyFundedDate":1758574377774,"projectUrl":"project/game-on-building-focus-and-friendships/9679941/","projectTitle":"Game On: Building Focus and Friendships","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. DuRoss","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9639696"},{"teacherId":9253311,"projectId":9535786,"letterContent":"Thank you for funding this project! Students loved the art supplies, and the snacks were a real treat. I set out the items for everyone to view, as they arrived a full week before we were scheduled to do our first project. That 1st day, students stood at the table, claiming this item or that color for their personal projects that were still a week away, which just made me smile. \r\n\r\nOn project day, I did not have a single absent student. :-) Students could choose to either create a new book cover for the book we just finished reading, or they could write a haiku about any part of the book, and then artfully design how to lay out the haiku.\r\n\r\nTheir projects are now hanging in the hallway and the entire school is enjoying them.
