My kindergarten students were extremely happy and excited the first day they used the attribute blocks. For the lesson, we used the blocks to sort by shape, size, and color. We also used them to describe similarities and differences of the blocks to create more sophisticated groups such as sorting by the number of sides or angles of the shapes. \r\n My fifth graders were having some difficulty with decimal place value, and the plastic coins were the perfect tools to help my students make some connections. By relating decimals to money, they were able to see and understand how our number system is based on powers of ten. To practice addition and subtraction of decimals, we used familiar situations that involved money, often referring to shopping at a store. We are now working on becoming more comfortable with multiplying decimal numbers using shopping scenarios again to make sense of a problem.\r\n The geometry units will be later in the year, but I know the Anglegs and geometric shapes will be beneficial for creating and understanding the similarities and differences of angles. Later in the year, first grade students will be expected to identify US coins, and the plastic coins will be perfect for practice. Second graders will also be using coins to practice adding and subtracting money and two-digit numbers. \r\n Your generosity has brought smiles and excitement to math for my students. They enjoy using math tools because the tools help them better understand why numbers behave the way they do. They now have multiple opportunities to be successful and show what they know!","fullyFundedDate":1757423292144,"projectUrl":"project/support-young-mathematicians/9693123/","projectTitle":"Support Young Mathematicians","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10218088"},{"teacherId":4482019,"projectId":9695358,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students now have hands-on materials that are transforming our reading lessons! These resources have brought stories and concepts to life in ways that keep my students excited, focused, and eager to learn every day.\r\n\r\nWhen the new materials arrived, the room buzzed with excitement. My students couldn't wait to explore everything and immediately began using the items to connect what they read to real-world experiences. During our human body unit, two students proudly worked together to complete a three-foot puzzle of the human body. Their laughter and teamwork showed just how powerful learning can be when it's interactive and fun.\r\n\r\nThese materials have strengthened reading comprehension, vocabulary, and background knowledge for all of my learners, including those from military families, English language learners, and students in special programs.
