The introduction of flexible seating and games into the classroom has truly transformed the learning environment. My students were initially excited and curious when they first saw the new materials. Flexible seating options—like bean bags, standing desks, and cozy corners—allowed them to choose where they felt most comfortable. This autonomy made them more engaged and focused. They especially loved the games incorporated into lessons, which turned challenging concepts into fun, interactive experiences.\r\n\r\nThe games helped with collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking, making the learning process feel like a natural part of their day. It also allowed students to take on leadership roles and learn from one another in ways that traditional desk seating wouldn't have facilitated. Over time, they've become more confident and motivated, as they now see learning as something dynamic and enjoyable. The classroom feels more like a community, where every student can thrive in their own way.","fullyFundedDate":1727462693647,"projectUrl":"project/for-the-kids/8574305/","projectTitle":"For the Kids","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Finn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9077564_orig.png?crop=372,372,x134,y189&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1686951419159","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9077564"},{"teacherId":9243047,"projectId":8573427,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my project, \"Flexible Seating for the Win!\" Your generosity helped my students engage more in class by offering different seating choices that help them as individual humans and learners. Providing funding for things such as a papasan chair for students who want to sit on a cushion in a comfortable seat that helps them lounge or on thick cushions for students to sit on while working at our coffee table or on the floor has encouraged my students to be thoughtful about where they sit each day. There were MANY books for many different skill levels. My students love that they are able read these texts easily and often come to me making connections to what we learn in phonics to what the see and read in the texts. We now have an entire shelf of books that students and independently read and enjoy! The best part is how many nonfiction decodable texts we now have. It is usually very difficult to find nonfiction texts that are decodable for young first grade readers. I am now able to teach comprehension standards for nonfiction texts more successfully because students can read and understand the books. Students are more confident in their reading and our decoding and comprehension skills are better than last year with these resources. Students also enjoy the \"phones\" that help the with fluency and whisper reading. The wiggle seat has also positively impacted my students who need to move when they learn.","fullyFundedDate":1727461834602,"projectUrl":"project/reading-is-fun/8575561/","projectTitle":"Reading is Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ligon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9632664"},{"teacherId":9239857,"projectId":8575047,"letterContent":"I greatly appreciate your generosity to fund my Donor's Choose Project for my Fourth Grade Classroom. One specific project involved using the building blocks and Magna-Tiles to work together in teams to design and build structures that represented geometric shapes and patterns. This hands-on activity helped students practice spatial reasoning, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. The game Trouble was also a hit, as it encouraged students to take turns, strategize, and practice math facts while navigating the board. These games have made learning feel more dynamic and engaging, encouraging students to actively communicate and collaborate in new ways.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials were first introduced, my students were extremely excited. Their faces lit up when they saw the chess sets, building blocks, and other games—they were eager to dive in and start playing. Some students immediately began setting up the Chess boards, while others gathered around the Sorry! and Trouble games, excited to try out the rules. It was clear that they were enthusiastic about the new learning tools and saw them as more than just games; they viewed them as a fun, interactive way to learn and work together. The buzz of excitement in the classroom showed that these resources were already making an impact on their engagement and excitement for learning.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue using these resources in a variety of ways to further develop their collaboration and critical thinking skills. For example, we plan to integrate the math fact cards into daily practice, turning them into a friendly competition to reinforce math fluency while keeping the mood light and fun. The hands-on building projects with Magna-Tiles and blocks will also continue, with students tasked to design more complex structures or solve engineering challenges together. These next steps will help students connect the fun of the games to real-life learning while fostering a positive, collaborative classroom environment.","fullyFundedDate":1727462743019,"projectUrl":"project/fun-engaging-classroom-for-collaborative/8575018/","projectTitle":"Fun Engaging Classroom for Collaborative Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sallee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9249483"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107911","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":568,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":32,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":46,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.0,"schoolId":107911,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mountain Vista Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mountain Vista Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/cherry-creek-school-district-5/mountain-vista-elementary-school/107911"}
