When a student is less reactive to objects in their environment but responds to something new, you get a chance to see skills you didn't know they had. One particular student who played with her xylophone at home moved to the new xylophone ball run. She picked up the ballet and began to play. Previously, she only tapped markers together at school. Other students love pulling and pushing the fruit toys apart and together. Students work on strengthing the coordination of their hands while playing with building their imagination. These materials make it easier to make hard work more fun.\r\n\r\nThank you for your generous contributions. My next steps include finding challenging ways to creatively use these same materials to advance their fine motor skills.","fullyFundedDate":1727462614398,"projectUrl":"project/crash-crawl-spin-organized-and-ready/8574702/","projectTitle":"Crash, Crawl, Spin - Organized and Ready to Learn!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Noelle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9294452"},{"teacherId":9298650,"projectId":8587637,"letterContent":"A huge thank you for choosing to support my classroom project. My students have really enjoyed having the new materials. I try to design many different kinds of art experiences for my students. I particularly want my students to have exposure to many different kinds of materials for creative expression. I am a firm believer in process over product art, with open-ended materials. I also believe in children having free choice and many opportunities to repeat and expand on their work. This involves having a large quantity of supplies, so the materials I chose were based on provided more variety and quantity.\r\n\r\nThe materials were introduced to the students in late November and December. I am thrilled by the students' responses to using them and continue to be amazed by their inventiveness, excitement and curiosity. Often our students' needs are learned and supported throughout the school year. The variety of items in this donation project has support this learning for the classroom team and given our students time to try out different items that support their needs. For example, the box of noise canceling headphones has been particularly helpful for one student who struggles during our whole group time. Her peers are often loud and interruptive of her learning during these times causing her to become upset and cry. The headphones have given her the opportunity to engage comfortably with group and demonstrate her knowledge of academic materials. \r\n\r\nAnother student that has been supported by the supplies donated is a young boy who has an oral sensory need. We found that his need was so high that he needed more durable chewing supports and with the donated materials, we were able to find the right chewing material to support him and help him concentrate during school. \r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for the donation and support for our students with special needs and are proud of our student's progress this year with the additional sensory supports in place","fullyFundedDate":1727462873746,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-strategies-for-lcdc-autism/8574594/","projectTitle":"Sensory Strategies for LCDC Autism","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stephanie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9223768_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723042872911","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9223768"},{"teacherId":9301031,"projectId":8574709,"letterContent":"This project has done so much for my students in our Autism program! The students are noticing others playing music instruments by looking at them when previously they would play alone. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous donation to our classroom. Both of these materials became fun parts of our school's Foods Unit, in which familiar and novel vocabulary could be practiced.
