You can hear laughter, see collaboration, and feel the excitement as students engage in games, puzzles, and activities that help them ease into the school day.\r\n\r\nOne of the most heartwarming moments has been watching how students handle sharing. On days when several students want the same game or puzzle, instead of arguing or complaining, they take the opportunity to teach each other how the games work and encourage peers to take turns or try it out the following week. These moments of kindness and teamwork show the true impact of your donation—not just on academic readiness, but on classroom community.\r\n\r\nStudents were absolutely thrilled to learn that our project had been funded. With the hustle and bustle of daily school life and extra holiday festivities and events, our project got off to a slower start than anticipated.\r\nHowever, our students were, and are, very excited to have these art resources and tools in their creative hands. Despite the delay, we are enthusiastic and appreciative.\r\n\r\nOnce the rulers, papers, crayons and pencils were unpacked and our vision began to become a reality, my instructional assistant and myself began to realize that most of our students had not been exposed to working with measurement tools or had learned concepts and terms such as vertical, horizontal, parallel, etc. and we needed to back up a bit before teaching perspective. Students needed to learn the basics of using a straightedge/ruler to draw lines and experience different directions, widths and angles. We elected to create a series of colorful trees and they turned out amazing--all students from grades 3-5 were able to create a tree for a magical forest.
