When they first saw the materials, their reactions were priceless! The smiles, gasps, and lots of questions about when they could use everything. Several students asked if the supplies were \"really for our class,\" and they were proud to know that people cared enough to support their learning. We have been using the supplies during literacy, social-emotional learning, and fine-motor activities. One meaningful project was a directed drawing and storytelling activity connected to our reading block. Students created characters and settings from stories we read together, then used their artwork to label pictures, describe details, and share ideas with peers and staff. For students who often feel overwhelmed by writing, the art supplies helped make the task more approachable and engaging.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for our students are to continue using the materials across classroom lessons and end-of-year projects. We will be creating science projects connected to properties of materials, literacy response projects tied to classroom read-alouds, and \"All About Me\" or emotion-based art activities to support communication and self-expression. Students will also begin working on memory books and end-of-year portfolios that include drawings, writing samples, reflections, and examples of their progress. These supplies are helping students build confidence, independence, fine-motor skills, and pride in their work. Thank you for helping bring creativity, joy, and hands-on learning into our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1745929104730,"projectUrl":"project/artists-with-autism/9243005/","projectTitle":"Artists with Autism","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Adhikari","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9605083_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735271546195","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9605083"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_73801","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":990,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":17,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":62,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"25.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.1,"schoolId":73801,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Esperanza Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Esperanza Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/westside-union-school-district/esperanza-elementary-school/73801"}
