Calculators may not seem that that big of a deal, but they do offer students a little bit of comfort as they are tackling new and challenging math concepts. Many students struggle with basic math calculations, which then hinders them from grasping the higher level concepts we are trying to teach them. We have a school wide program called Five Star that we use to give students points when we see them following and exercising our school wide expectations. Due to your kind and generous donations, my students are able to cash in their points in our classroom store. I allowed my students to pick all items requested through Donor's Choose used to stock their classroom store. When the items started arriving to my classroom one by one, you could see the excitement on their faces. My students then came up with the procedures/schedule to cash in points for snacks. At the beginning of class on Fridays, students can use their points to buy snacks and eat/share them as they work through the class period. Food is a huge motivator for junior high students. Since implementing the classroom store and system, positive behaviors are definitely on the rise. Thanks again to all the donors that helped make this possible.
