The paper organizer and plastic containers for colored pencil storage have helped me organize my classroom cabinet in a way that it has never been organized before. When students first saw the newly organized materials, they were excited to see that everything had its own place and was easy to find. Having an organized classroom helps my students learn better because we can spend less time searching for materials and more time focused on our lessons and learning.\r\n\r\nThe new guided reading strips have also been especially helpful for students with a variety of learning needs. Students can use the strips to follow along with the text we are reading, focus on one paragraph at a time, and stay focused without feeling overwhelmed by an entire page of text. When they first saw all of the materials organized in caddies and ready for them to use, they were so excited to see how many different colors and options they had. They immediately started talking about what they wanted to create and were thrilled to have materials that allowed them to express themselves in their own unique ways.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite ways we have used these new materials was during our second week of school when I introduced my students to S.M.A.R.T. goals. As seventh graders beginning a new school year, I wanted students to take some time to think about what they hoped to accomplish both academically and personally. After learning what makes a goal S.M.A.R.T., each student created two academic goals and two personal goals for the school year.\r\n\r\nOnce students had written their four goals, they got to design their own \"Goal Jar\" to represent their goals and the kind of year they wanted to have. This was such a fun opportunity for students to be creative while also thinking seriously about their plans for seventh grade. Some students designed candy jars, cookie jars, pickle jars, and even a firefly jar! Every jar was different, and I loved seeing students take ownership of their designs and make their projects completely their own.\r\n\r\nThe new markers, colored pencils, and crayons made such a difference during this project because students had the freedom to use as many colors and creative details as they wanted. Rather than simply writing down their goals, they were able to create something that felt personal and exciting to them. What we have to keep track of and have stocked for them to be successful in a classroom. Most of them have no idea how much it costs to do these things and how much is not paid for by the school they are attending. This is no fault of theirs and they are just accepting that they have everything they need. It is a burden that they should not have to carry when they come to school each day.\r\n\r\nAs one who carries that burden for them, I am eternally grateful to everyone who has ever donated to my projects and helped me to make sure my students are prepared and unburdened by these things. I as a yoga instructor have been able to exapand our yoga practice! Now that my students have the supports we are able to explore more poses because we have the props to help prevent injuries. It makes a yoga practice so much more accesible to all students.\r\n\r\nI am always blown away by the generosity of Donors Choose donors. I cannot thank you enough for to opportunities that you are helping to make available to my students. They are now able to explore something that they may never have seen before. They never hesitate to support students so that they can get the most out of their education. Calculators may not seem that that big of a deal, but they do offer students a little bit of comfort as they are tackling new and challenging math concepts. Many students struggle with basic math calculations, which then hinders them from grasping the higher level concepts we are trying to teach them. There is a daily ask for these in my classes and I happy to provide it. \r\nLastly, the snacks I was able to purchase are a lifesaver. Even though we currently provide breakfast and lunch for our students, they still get hungry during the day.
