Age-appropriate equipment can be expensive, but it maximizes learning. Thank you for partnering with me to provide the best education- sound in materials and methods. \r\n\r\nThe hockey pucks provided through the grant offer students choice. When students get to choose from quality equipment, the game is more competitive and they have a sense of ownership; they have a hand in their destiny. As you might conclude from the pictures, once in a while a puck goes missing under the nearby bushes. Regularly the bushes are checked for missing equipment, but having spares allows the game to go on during PE time and equipment recovery after instructional time. \r\n\r\nVolleyball skills are taught in PE to equip the students for recreational opportunities for a lifetime. Your contribution of new volleyballs allows all students access; more touches and less watching. Students from first through fifth grade are introduced to the correct form for a forearm pass, equating to 700 students. In the upper grades, students learn to pass, set and serve plus the basic rotation. The equipment you sponsored offers students different kinds of balls to practice with, again building autonomy and confidence. When students aren't afraid the equipment will harm them- sting when it makes contact- they are more willing to participate, equating to greater skill acquisition and an increased likelihood of lifetime activity. Right now, Vineyard Elementary is utilizing the new volleyballs and the power of choice, the sense of independence, has all students working hard and focused. Thank you!\r\n\r\nYes, your generosity, your willingness to sponsor volleyballs, basketballs, hula hoops and more builds a confidence in my students that moving is fun. When they have fun, they are more likely to stay active for years to come, warding of preventable disease and resulting in a healthier lifestyle.
