McKinley Elementary prides itself on having a supportive and positive school climate to help our students be successful in school. Our McKinley Eagles deserve to feel fresh and hygienic throughout their day and with our replenished and improved hygiene station, our students experience increased comfort which helps them to have a positive attitude about school. We hope that by having a hygiene station available to all, students will feel supported, loved, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nMany students have already utilized the hygiene station and received much-needed items. These materials have allowed us to have deeper discussions, strengthen vocabulary, and build confidence in comprehension.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now centers around the monthly booklet. Students look forward to receiving each issue because it gives them fresh, relevant articles every time. Using the scavenger hunt handout from the online portion, they are able to collaborate, share what they've learned, and discover new information in a fun and engaging way. This activity has turned reading into an interactive experience where students are motivated to explore, find answers, and make connections together.\r\n\r\nThe variety of news articles included in the booklet has been especially powerful. Because the topics range widely, students have the freedom to choose pieces that connect to their own lives and interests. The mix of snacks, from Hot Cheetos (by far the class favorite) to Pirate's Booty, Kind Bars, beef jerky, Quest chips, and vitamin waters, instantly brought smiles and energy into the room. They were thrilled to see that donors had thought about their interests and provided such a variety of choices.\r\n\r\nWe've been using these snacks as part of our classroom routines for both daily incentives and Fun Friday activities. One memorable moment came during a collaborative group project when participation was starting to lag. Once I reminded them that effort and teamwork could be rewarded with snacks, the energy completely shifted—students leaned in, contributed ideas, and supported one another until the task was finished. The snacks became a way to celebrate not just finishing the work, but doing it together.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these resources will continue to help us reinforce positive behavior, motivation, and teamwork. My students now see snacks as more than a treat—they're a symbol of encouragement, effort, and growth. The next step is to carry this motivation into larger projects where collaboration and persistence are key. Our custodial staff is able to vacuum room with the larger batteries without needing to stop and recharge the batteries before they are done vacuuming all the rooms. This helps them to keep all the rooms clean and vacuumed in a timely manner which helps our students be less exposed to unnecessary germs.
