With your generous donation, I was able to purchase age-appropriate resources and materials to support teaching about social-emotional growth. The students especially enjoyed the Spots of Emotion book series. As young learners, they are already using their new skills in real, everyday situations.\r\nThese materials are especially wonderful because they will carry us through the entire year. Emotional intelligence is such a powerful trait, and I believe in planting the seeds as early as possible. When young children are given the right tools, they gain confidence, empathy, and resilience, which are essential for both academic learning and lifelong well-being.","fullyFundedDate":1758819968459,"projectUrl":"project/growing-hearts-and-minds-social-emotio/9658156/","projectTitle":"“Growing Hearts and Minds: Social Emotional Learning in Early Childhood","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cha","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10228292"},{"teacherId":9553192,"projectId":9138887,"letterContent":"When our Hands-On Learning for Growing Minds resources arrived, students were immediately engaged and eager to explore. The connecting block toys quickly became a collaborative learning tool, encouraging teamwork and communication as students created patterns and worked together to create something new. This hands-on activity naturally reinforced early math and literacy concepts, as students used descriptive vocabulary to compare sizes and practice spatial awareness. Similarly, the play dough provided a highly effective way for students to strengthen fine motor skills while forming letters, numbers, and shapes. Several students who typically hesitate with pencil-and-paper tasks were more motivated to participate, practicing foundational writing skills in a developmentally appropriate and enjoyable way.\r\nThe liquid sensory toys have been equally impactful in supporting classroom routines and self-regulation. Upon their introduction, students were fascinated by the colors and movement, and these tools have since become an essential part of our calm corner. By using them during transitions or moments of frustration, students are better able to manage emotions and refocus on their learning tasks.\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue to integrate these resources into daily instruction. Play dough will be used to support sight word and number recognition, while block play will extend into storytelling projects where students build a scene and then describe or write about it. These materials have created new opportunities for my students to stay engaged, practice critical skills, and experience success across content areas. Your generosity has provided not only tools, but meaningful learning experiences that will continue to shape their growth throughout the year.","fullyFundedDate":1746785639426,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-learning-for-growing-minds-sen/9138887/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Learning for Growing Minds: Sensory and Literacy Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Magdaleno","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9553192_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740973698760","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9553192"},{"teacherId":9553192,"projectId":8417053,"letterContent":"The new resources have been a fantastic addition to our classroom, creating a more engaging and supportive learning environment for my students. The sensory toys and squishy seat have been particularly helpful in providing calming and focus-enhancing options for students who need movement or sensory input. The emotion cards have sparked meaningful conversations about feelings, allowing students to practice identifying and expressing emotions in a safe and supportive way. During a recent morning circle, we used the emotion cards to check in with how everyone was feeling, and it was heartwarming to see students engage and connect with one another. The magnet tiles and Unifix cubes have also been a hit, making math and science more hands-on and interactive. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their excitement was undeniable! Their eyes lit up as they explored the new sensory toys, eagerly feeling the different textures and experimenting with how they worked. One student immediately grabbed a squishy fidget toy and smiled as they squeezed it, showing a sense of comfort and joy. Another student enthusiastically began building with the magnet tiles, proudly showing off their creative structures. Seeing their engagement and enthusiasm reinforced just how meaningful these resources are in making learning fun and accessible. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these materials will continue to be incorporated into daily lessons to support both academic and social-emotional learning. We plan to use the Unifix cubes for counting, patterning, and simple addition activities, helping students strengthen foundational math skills through hands-on exploration. The magnet tiles will be used in upcoming science lessons on shapes and structures, allowing students to experiment with building stable designs. Emotion cards will remain a key part of our social-emotional check-ins, encouraging students to develop self-awareness and empathy. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our classroom is now an even more inclusive and engaging space where all students can thrive!","fullyFundedDate":1726759605908,"projectUrl":"project/unlocking-potential-sensory-and-learnin/8417053/","projectTitle":"Unlocking Potential: Sensory and Learning Tools for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Magdaleno","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9553192_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740973698760","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9553192"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38404","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":397,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":75,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"18.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.9,"schoolId":38404,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Oneonta Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Oneonta Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/south-bay-union-school-district/oneonta-elementary-school/38404"}
