It is clear that these resources spark curiosity and excitement and so much language learning!\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up with surprise and enthusiasm. I had them be part of the unboxing and explained that people in the community and dear to my heart donated everything! They immediately wanted to dive in and try new things. The resources have already become an essential part of our classroom routine, helping students work on their fine motor skills, early literacy skills, and beginning math concepts.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has not only enriched our classroom but also helped our students develop a love of learning. From the moment I introduced them, the students were thrilled and one even said, \"Now we get to write our own music?!\" These whiteboards have quickly become a favorite tool for learning. We've been using them to practice note names, create rhythms, and even compose short melodies. It's been incredible to see how something so simple has made such a big impact on their engagement and understanding. \r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments so far was during a rhythm composition activity. Each student created a 4-beat pattern and we performed them as a class using classroom instruments. They were so proud to share their work, and the whiteboards made it easy for everyone to participate and revise their ideas. \r\n\r\nRight now, we're focusing on treble clef note reading and starting to write out rhythms by ear. These hands-on tools are helping students build confidence and make real connections between what they hear and what they write. The books have created essential classroom reading this year. We finished reading Gary Soto's \"Baseball in April\" in January and have now moved on to \"Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.\" Soto's book is an award-winning take on middle school life and coming of age, and it was the basis for our month-long two-person narrative story assignment. Using the book as our touchstone, we discussed love, loss, longing, growing up and so many more issues, all set to the backdrop of Soto's realistic fiction. The stories they wrote, based on Soto, are amazing! \r\n\r\nNow, we've moved on to another award-winner: \"Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.\" The book deals with the challenges facing a family living in rural Mississippi during the Jim Crow era of the 1930s. Again, the narrator is a young girl, close to the age of my students, and the story is giving them a window into the challenges of growing up at that time and in that place. In addition to making history come alive, the story is giving us great factual information for our informational essays on education in America. \r\n\r\nLast, the art supplies have provided us with amazing tools to respond creatively to the books, which we will continue to move through this year and well into the future. No matter the feelings, students belong and are welcome at school; especially in the counseling room where working through strong emotions is a safe place. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
