The students were immediately curious and eager to learn. Many asked great questions about how the ukulele works and what songs they might get to play. These classroom visits have helped spark enthusiasm and set the stage for a fun and engaging musical experience.\r\n\r\nThe students were excited when they saw the ukuleles, and some have already signed up for the after-school program. During the classroom visits, students got a chance to touch and strum the ukuleles, which made them even more eager to join and start learning.\r\n\r\nNext, students will begin the program by learning how to hold and strum the ukulele, followed by mastering their first chords. As the program progresses, they'll work together to learn simple songs and prepare a group performance to share with their classmates and families later in the semester. We're also introducing basic music theory concepts to help them grow as confident young musicians.","fullyFundedDate":1752586490004,"projectUrl":"project/strumming-for-success-ukuleles-for-5th-/9378610/","projectTitle":"Strumming for Success: Ukuleles for 5th-Grade Musicians!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Serobyan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9073207"},{"teacherId":1111171,"projectId":8839817,"letterContent":"We had to reorder and/or change the order because many of the items were unavailable when it was processed. We received the puppets at the beginning of the year, and I introduced them alongside our Zoo-Phonics friend pictures. One special moment was when we used the puppets during a small group lesson, and my students were so engaged that they stayed focused longer than usual, which is a huge accomplishment for them. When the students first saw the puppets, their faces lit up with excitement—they immediately wanted to play with them, and it was clear that the resources sparked their curiosity and motivation. The students have also been using the puppets during free time, and my staff and I are encouraging them to pair each puppet with its Zoo-Phonics sound to help reinforce letter-sound connections in a fun and meaningful way. Thanks to the support of our donors, my students now have more opportunities to learn through hands-on play. Our next steps are to continue building on these lessons by using the puppets in upcoming literacy projects, where students will practice their sounds more independently and show growth in both confidence and learning.","fullyFundedDate":1746785763496,"projectUrl":"project/boosting-phonemic-awareness-through-zoo-/9172427/","projectTitle":"Boosting Phonemic Awareness through Zoo-Phonics Animal Puppets","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Serobyan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9073207"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_31873","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":726,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":69,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"26.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.3,"schoolId":31873,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Vista Verde Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Vista Verde Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/snowline-joint-unified-school-district/vista-verde-elementary-school/31873"}
