But within minutes, their curiosity took over. They began digging, pouring, and creating, all while talking with one another and sharing tools. Nearby, students traced lowercase letters using the tactile sandpaper letters and then practiced forming those same letters in the sand tray. Seeing them make connections across materials—seeing, touching, and saying the letters—was incredibly meaningful.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were immediately drawn in. Their faces lit up with curiosity and excitement as they explored the tubs and eagerly waited for their turn. Many students exclaimed the letters they recognized, while others carefully traced the textured letters with their fingers. Even students who are typically hesitant during academic activities were highly engaged and motivated to participate.\r\n\r\nThanks to our donors, the next steps for students include deepening these skills through intentional, guided practice and independent exploration.
