These resources will be especially valuable during our Math Workshop, when students work independently, with partners, and in small groups. Instead of simply completing another worksheet, students can talk about their thinking, try different strategies, learn from one another, and build a deeper understanding of the math.\r\n\r\nOne of my biggest goals is for students to see themselves as capable mathematicians. When students have opportunities to practice challenging concepts in an engaging and supportive way, they are more willing to take risks, persevere when something is difficult, and learn from their mistakes. This project, \"A Shared Reading Experience,\" has truly transformed our literacy time together. The students are genuinely excited to read each day, and seeing their high level of engagement with the text has been so fun to see! \r\n\r\nCurrently, students are actively working on finding textual evidence to support their thinking and, more importantly, articulating the \"why,\" explaining the significance of that evidence in their own words. They are forming sound opinions and are eager to share them. This week, we are finishing \"Mind Maps\" where students select the most important moments from the chapters and translate them into a blend of words and art on a large paper.\r\n\r\nThe outcome of this project has been nothing short of amazing. Looking ahead, we are preparing for a Socratic Seminar, where students will lead a formal discussion to debate the book's major themes. This entire journey will culminate in a final essay that showcases their growth and deeper understanding. They have helped make books more viable, and easier for students to access. Before, the books would get pushed to the back of the shelves making them less accessible physically as well as visually. Great titles were languishing in the shadows. Or they were passed over because they were hard to reach. \r\n I have used the pool noodles to fill in the space behind the books so the spines are toward the edge. This makes it easier for the students to see the book spines, as well as access the books.
