I used the stretcher and bracer bars to construct a 63\"x 63\" canvas, then I drew a grid on the surface to create 300+ individual squares. Every student was assigned a square to paint so that the end product would celebrate the culmination of all their artistic expression!\r\n\r\nThe students were excited to have an opportunity not only to paint but paint on a canvas that was so large! Due to the taping and covering of squares to ensure students didn't accidentally paint a finished piece, the finished product remained a mystery until we did the final unveiling! Even staff and teachers had the opportunity to complete a square on the canvas!\r\n\r\nEvery student who has passed by the displayed finished piece has excitedly tried to find their own square amongst their peers'. Giving them this opportunity to participate in a meaningful experience that has helped build community throughout the campus has been incredible! Everyone, students and staff alike, enjoy perusing each of the squares and identifying the different artists. My sudents in 2nd-5th grade have participated in small groups learning how to build and code projects based on the instructions. Language is targeted through receptive language tasks, like answer WH questions and expressive language tasks like retelling the stories. \r\n\r\nMy students were THRILLED and so excited to build their first Spike Essential story. While many have used Legos before, this set brings the pieces to life and incorporates important skills such as computer programming and coding.\r\n\r\nMy goal is to add other Lego Education kits to the speech therapy room in the future.
