The trucks were an immediate hit and became movers of dirt, mud, rocks and more. It was fascinating to watch students using the scale. I sat and listened to two students talk about what was heavier, why they thought so, and what materials they could use to balance the scale (all without me having to say a word). Students lined up to use the rope ladder, and found it more challenging than they expected as it moved and spun (not a quick and easy way to climb the tree as they thought). It has been so fun watching them set up backdrops for their puppet shows, collaborate with their friends, get others to be an audience, and create stories with the puppets. I love how the show might consist of two puppets doing nothing but bouncing around aimlessly, and yet the audience is rapt and everyone is supportive of their efforts. It's so fun seeing how they work together to try to create a story for the puppets, or use them to act out things that have happened in their lives. Our students are loving having the ability to paint every single day, and we are loving not having to worry if it drips on the floor or they decide to paint themselves instead of the paper. Whether it's to help them relax and regulate, to share stories and songs with friends, or as music for a dance party, the Tonies player has been a wonderful addition to our TK classroom. These activities are often done outdoors, but our new equipment gives us the amazing ability to nurture and grow them indoors as well. The favorite is the spinning chair! Unlike a sit and spin, which uses arm strength to make it move, it uses gravity and body position to spin. And it spins fast! They love it and we can always find students spinning away. You will see them use math to figure out how to combine multiple blocks to equal a long one. You will find them combining two blocks and realizing that together they make a new shape.
