These resources have quickly become a cornerstone of our social-emotional learning (SEL) activities, serving as engaging read-alouds, discussion starters, and tools for individual reflection. When my students first saw the collection, their faces lit up with excitement. They eagerly explored the colorful covers and titles, immediately asking if we could dive into a story together. It was a moment of pure joy and curiosity.\r\n\r\nSince introducing these materials, we've used them in several meaningful ways. One memorable moment occurred when we read \"Breathe with Me\" by Mariam Gates during a mindfulness session. The book's soothing narrative and practical breathing exercises captivated the students. One child remarked how they used the \"balloon breath\" technique before a stressful situation at home, and another shared how they felt calmer practicing the exercises before a spelling test. The story opened a dialogue about different ways to manage stress, and students began to actively encourage each other to try the breathing techniques.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps include incorporating these books into weekly mindfulness activities and SEL lessons. The diverse stories and perspectives presented in these resources will continue to help my students see the world through multiple lenses, fostering greater empathy and understanding of others. Your generosity has laid the foundation for these ongoing efforts, empowering my students to build resilience, emotional intelligence, and a deep appreciation for diversity. Thank you for making this transformative journey possible and for believing in the power of SEL to shape compassionate, well-rounded individuals.","fullyFundedDate":1726706441400,"projectUrl":"project/sel-library-fostering-inclusion-divers/8673759/","projectTitle":"SEL Library: Fostering Inclusion, Diversity, and Emotional Well-being","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Delgado","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9687124_orig.png?crop=500,500,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723971266106","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9687124"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_93116","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":920,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":67,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":90,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.0,"schoolId":93116,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Santiago Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Santiago Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/santa-ana-unified-school-district/santiago-elementary-school/93116"}
