The new materials have truly transformed our studio space and given my students the opportunity to explore their creativity like never before. When they first saw the new tools and supplies, their excitement was undeniable—students immediately began discussing project ideas and couldn't wait to get their hands in the clay. For many, this was their first time working with high-quality materials, and the difference in their confidence and enthusiasm was incredible.\r\n\r\nOne of our first projects with these new resources was a coil pottery assignment, where students designed and built their own functional ceramic pieces. With access to new carving tools and glazes, they were able to add intricate details and experiment with surface textures in ways that weren't possible before. Seeing their pride as they pulled their finished pieces from the kiln was a truly special moment.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we'll be using these materials to explore more advanced techniques, such as slab construction and glazing experiments. These experiences will help my students refine their skills and develop a deeper appreciation for ceramics as both an art form and a craft. These notebooks are sturdy with plastic covers, so they don't fall apart in backpacks, have graph paper, and even a little pocket!\r\n\r\nIn all my Algebra and Geometry classes, we create interactive notebooks. That means that I make custom notes for each class that we complete together, including fun discovery and practice activities with them. Then, the students glue them into their notebooks, and continue to use them throughout the entire year, and sometimes even for years to come in their next classes. I think it is so important students learn how to utilize resources, as that is such a real life skill. Being able to look at examples, and then apply to new problems is way more realistic them expecting them to memorize every single formula, for example.\r\n\r\nAgain, we appreciate you bringing so much joy and our most utilized supply to my classroom that serves 160 students every day. In the last couple of years in particular, I have heard so many students tell me that they hate reading. One of my goals every year is to change this outlook in my classroom. \r\n\r\nIt's one thing to show a student how to conjugate a verb or give them a vocabulary list. It's another to then see that language in context and use that knowledge to be able to read and understand the plot of a novel. Once a week, we read a chapter of the book. The students work together translating and reading together, using a dictionary at the back of the book to help them, and they switch off reading and looking up words. They write four sentences about each chapter in Spanish and analyze the cultural differences they encounter. They are engaged and gaining confidence in only their first year of language learning. \r\n\r\nThese books make all the difference in my classes, and I thank you!","fullyFundedDate":1733237992902,"projectUrl":"project/reading-is-fundamental-to-language-learn/8906843/","projectTitle":"Reading Is Fundamental to Language Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Crome","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9818086"},{"teacherId":9786953,"projectId":8919754,"letterContent":"The generous donation of ceramic supplies has had a transformative impact on the classroom, greatly enhancing students' creativity, technical skills, and overall engagement with the art of ceramics. With access to high-quality clay, glazes, tools, and equipment, students are now able to explore more complex and ambitious projects, pushing their artistic boundaries and refining their craftsmanship.\r\n\r\nThis donation has also made ceramics more accessible to all students, removing financial barriers that might have otherwise limited participation. As a result, more students are discovering a passion for working with clay, leading to increased enthusiasm and dedication in the classroom. The ability to experiment with different materials and techniques has fostered deeper artistic expression and innovation.\r\n\r\nBeyond skill development, the impact extends to students' confidence and sense of accomplishment. Seeing their ideas take shape in tangible, finished pieces has given them a greater appreciation for the artistic process and their own capabilities. Additionally, the hands-on nature of ceramics provides a therapeutic and meditative outlet, promoting focus and well-being.\r\n\r\nOverall, the donated ceramic supplies have enriched the classroom experience, empowering students to create, learn, and grow in ways that would not have been possible otherwise.
