We are using the new items in several ways throughout our school day. The materials for our social-emotional corner have created a special space where students can take a moment to calm down, reflect on their feelings, and prepare themselves to return to learning. The incentive toys have also been a wonderful addition to our classroom reward system and encourage students to make positive choices, complete their work, and demonstrate kindness and responsibility. Our birthday cups help us make each student feel special and celebrated on their birthday.\r\n\r\n\r\nStudents were extremely excited when they first saw all of the new materials. They especially enjoyed seeing the incentive toys and learning that they could earn them by demonstrating positive classroom behaviors and putting forth their best effort. One of my favorite moments was introducing our social-emotional corner and explaining how students could use the materials when they needed a quiet moment to reset. It was wonderful to see students understand that our classroom is not only a place for academic learning, but also a place where their feelings and emotional well-being are valued. The birthday cups have added another special touch by giving us a fun way to recognize and celebrate each student.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using these resources to strengthen both our classroom community and our academic learning. The cardstock, laminator, and laminating sheets will allow me to create durable learning materials, task cards, anchor charts, classroom activities, and resources that students can use throughout the year. Students will also continue practicing social-emotional skills such as identifying their feelings, using calming strategies, showing kindness, and making responsible choices.
