That was the sound in my classes as my students went about designing their artwork, all the while applying math concepts they had learned. \r\n\r\nWe learned how to graph on a coordinate plane. Using our knowledge of graphing, my students were challenged to engage their creativity to create new designs on graph papers. Then, their design is transferred onto a canvas for the final step. We learned how to thread a needle and use it to \"draw\" lines on the canvas. Ultimately, my students were able to create lined art that brings out their personality and creativity.\r\n\r\nMy students were treated to a surprise; going from being perplexed as to why we would do an art project in a math classroom to fully embracing the challenges in front of them, to combine their artistic endeavour with their mathematical knowledge. My students couldn't wait to be able to bring their project home to give to their mom for Mother's Day. Others couldn't wait to bring it home to decorate their room. It warms my heart to see their excitement and curiosity as they make new connections and develop new appreciation for learning across disciplines. \r\n\r\nThank you for giving me and my students this opportunity to learn beyond the classroom walls.","fullyFundedDate":1745624643376,"projectUrl":"project/when-math-and-art-collide/9259898/","projectTitle":"When Math and Art Collide","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nguyen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9597929_orig.jpg?crop=2204,2204,x488,y894&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1744845305838","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-nguyenprojects"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40664","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1179,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":46,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"26.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.8,"schoolId":40664,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Woodland Park Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Woodland Park Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/san-marcos-unified-school-district/woodland-park-middle-school/40664"}
