The materials we received allowed us to start the year off on an amazing foot. The kids were so excited to see the donation boxes being delivered to the classroom and to hear that the materials were for them. \r\n\r\nOur first project of the year was to create a notebook that highlighted each student and their hobbies, interests, and who they are as a person. They enjoyed being able to have the freedom to make this notebook unique to them. Their personalities came to life during this project and they loved sharing their ideas and finished notebooks with their peers. They are extremely connected to these notebooks and they have begun to unlock their creativity and personal genius as learners. \r\n\r\nAs the year progresses, and the opportunities for hands-on projects arise, these materials are readily available for them to not only demonstrate their knowledge, but to also bring out the creative genius they already posses. It truly takes a village to create learning opportunities that deeply impact the students I teach, and you are a part of that village. You have helped maintain a library that is relevant to the students being taught in this day and age. They struggle to pick up a book for many reasons, in they have to be vulnerable and take risks. \r\n\r\nBy adding diverse books, books that are high interest and relevant to their lives or experiences, an unseen magic starts to happen. In class I read to them. They are eleven and twelve, but the awe of someone reading aloud to them is mesmerizing. We stop and discuss what is happening. We predict and analyze the characters and their choices. We connect with fictional characters that mimic the ones in our lives or the ones we hoped we had. I remove many of the barriers that prevent students from reading which in turn gets them wanting to read. \r\n\r\nThe magic of reading plants its seed and it is watered daily. Each book provides a window into the infinite possibilities that await them. Your kindness and generous donations keeps the magic happening and the excitement alive as we preview the stories they have at their finger tips.","fullyFundedDate":1744219400285,"projectUrl":"project/the-literacy-link-connecting-students-t/9245967/","projectTitle":"The Literacy Link: Connecting Students to the Themselves and Others\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wohlford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1415553_orig.jpg?crop=3456,3456,x1728,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1595815428005","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1415553"},{"teacherId":3823314,"projectId":8888375,"letterContent":"My students have loved interacting with our sensory bins. Having a library that is readily available to students, filled with high-interest books increases engagement in the classroom and build life long learners. Your generous donation\r\nAs an English and history teacher, reading is a huge aspect of our day. As a class, we read a loud from our novel study and have open discussions about our shared read. Students are also actively engaged in their own independent reading daily. For many students access to high-interest books outside of school isn't as accessible as it should be. Despite that challenge, students know that they are always welcome to our classroom library, and they look forward to our First Chapter Fridays and our weekly book previews. During this time, students are introduced to books that they may over look on their own. \r\nThe books provided through this project have ignited and fueled the desire to read this year and for many more to come. This means a lot to me and the students I serve. The students I work with are not always interested in learning, and many find history to be boring. The kindness and generosity you have bestowed upon us is a game changer for this group of students. \r\n\r\nWe are so excited to bring fun into Ancient History this year with the Lego sets and building blocks from this project. As we learn about some of the ancient civilizations in our curriculum we are able to build a replica of a wonder of the world to supplement our learning.
