While snacks aren't the final answer to an overhauling of a school system's nutritional plan, I do think providing simple snacks like this helps students know they are seen, even if it's in small ways like this. \r\n\r\nA snack a day keeps the focus in play!","fullyFundedDate":1744732026459,"projectUrl":"project/sustenance-for-learning/9256857/","projectTitle":"Sustenance for Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Corina","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9609878_orig.jpg?crop=2116,2116,x151,y1088&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722897673614","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/corinachen"},{"teacherId":10055012,"projectId":9410250,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation of presentation pads and whiteboard markers. \r\n\r\nOur students have successfully completed our first unit of study on sequences. Students worked as teams and used the presentation papers to show case the multiple representations of sequences to the class. \r\n\r\nThey applied their knowledge about sequences to a project related to inflation in their home country with a driving question: how does inflation effect life and prices in the future? During the project, students collaborated with one another to generate important questions about inflation in their home country and shared their amazing questions with the class via the whiteboards and markers provided by your donation. \r\n\r\nIt was a successful first project of the year! Before, when I illustrated an example, I videoed myself drawing on paper. The quality of my videos was not as good because capturing my drawing and writing was not as clear as recording directly on an iPad screen. At the same time, it saved me a lot of time setting up the camera to record, allowing me to produce videos more frequently. For this reason, in the past, I mainly provided written sample work without offering an oral explanation. The new videos are game changers because they are a lot more comprehensive than a written sample. When my students can hear an explanation while they are working at home or completing a task related to the video's topic, they understand much better than just looking at the answers. Not to mention how the videos could support my students who were absent and wanted to catch up on their work at home. With this iPad, my Google Classroom feels more like a live support after-school tutoring center now. \r\nMoreover, the iPad mini helped me to record students' thinking and performance daily. I could easily use it to move around the room and write directly on the iPad, and save the record digitally. I recorded their voice and activities when things were too complicated to be recorded in text. These recordings helped me understand my students better and organize my knowledge of them, which in turn supported me in planning curriculum and activities that better fit their needs. \r\n\r\nIn sum, we sincerely appreciate your generous donation!","fullyFundedDate":1740515093048,"projectUrl":"project/know-you-all-you-all-know/9071262/","projectTitle":"Know You All! Many of our students are still developing their basic language in English, so visual supports—such as colorful diagrams, interactive charts, and printed models—are essential. These tools help students bridge the language gap, allowing them to engage with high-level content like bacterial resistance, PCR, and ELISA. When students can see these processes step-by-step in vivid color, they are better able to grasp vocabulary, follow lab procedures, and build long-term understanding.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the ability to physically interact with color-coded models and printed visuals they can annotate and refer back to. For example, when we study genetic engineering or bacterial conjugation, being able to pass around printed diagrams or assemble cut-and-color puzzles gives students a sense of ownership over the material. One student, who arrived with very limited formal education and little English, lit up when he was able to explain bacterial transformation using a printed model he helped assemble in class. Tools like these give all students—regardless of their starting point—the confidence and curiosity to see themselves as scientists. Our classroom has radically changed to give an access point to all students.","fullyFundedDate":1737393544065,"projectUrl":"project/newcomer-biotechnical-scientists/9071580/","projectTitle":"Newcomer Biotechnical Scientists","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Alexis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9902728"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_98266","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":392,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":49,"percentAsian":27,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":30,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":64.2,"schoolId":98266,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about San Francisco International High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"San Francisco International High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/san-francisco-unified-school-district/san-francisco-int-l-high-school/98266"}
