I think most of the students enjoyed this unit as it provided them with the opportunity to read books that they wouldn't normally choose to read. \r\n\r\nThese dystopian novels were challenging and presented students with sophisticated ideas about the world. We thought about the elements which make a novel dystopian and looked at the archetypical characters which inhabit these stories. (Ask your student what archetype means - they should know.)\r\n\r\nYour donation also made it possible for the class to have sets of each book title so students could work in book clubs, reading and discussing books with peers. We did a lot of work around learning how to talk more productively about the books read, elaborating on ideas and building on the thoughts of others. They did a great job at this - something they don't generally do on their own. \r\n\r\nI hope you all have a terrific summer and make sure your scholar reads throughout the summer.","fullyFundedDate":1733275212565,"projectUrl":"project/interesting-novels-for-book-club-activit/8980427/","projectTitle":"Interesting Novels for Book Club Activities","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Harris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp11621_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1503808584219","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/buzz-harris"},{"teacherId":11621,"projectId":8813591,"letterContent":"I just want to take one more opportunity to thank you all for contributing to this project. After researching medieval European history topics the students used their new headphones to produce podcasts in order to present their information to the class.\r\n\r\nIt was great to see how engaged the students were in this work as they both conveyed the information and worked to make their presentations as interesting and fun as possible.
