These books have already transformed the way my students approach reading. Before, many of them relied heavily on the pictures and would guess words, which made it hard for them to develop true decoding skills. Now they are using the letter sounds they know to read each word with intention, and it has been incredible to watch their confidence grow.\r\n\r\nThe first morning we used the new books, the room felt different. My students were leaning in, pointing to the letters, and trying so hard to use the sounds they have learned. One student proudly announced, \"I can sound this out by myself,\" and several others cheered for him. It was one of those moments that reminds me why these materials matter so much.\r\n\r\nWhen the books first arrived, my students were genuinely excited. They immediately noticed the clean layout and how the pictures matched the phonics patterns instead of giving away the words. They loved the idea that these books were \"made for kids who are learning to read,\" and that sense of importance motivated them almost instantly.\r\n\r\nRight now, we are focusing on strengthening CVC word decoding, blending sounds smoothly, and building stamina with connected text. These decodable readers give my students the perfect next step in their learning. They finally have books that match exactly what they are ready for, and I can already see how this is helping them become stronger and more independent readers.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting my classroom and giving my students tools that truly change their learning. Your generosity has made a meaningful impact, and we are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1756176517210,"projectUrl":"project/supplement-outdated-kindergarten-phonics/9453950/","projectTitle":"Supplement Outdated Kindergarten Phonics Curriculum","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sette","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10074337"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37936","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":332,"numTeachers":14,"percentFrplEligible":39,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":64,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":24,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"23.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.0,"schoolId":37936,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pacific Beach Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pacific Beach Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/san-diego-unified-school-district/pacific-beach-elementary-school/37936"}
