Your generous gift purchased four anemometers, a giant thermometer, two wave visualizer kits, a children's book titled \"Sounds All Around,\" and a Glow Germ kit. These tools are already transforming how our students explore weather, waves, and hands‑on science.\r\n\r\nThe anemometers and giant thermometer are now part of our classroom weather station. We are starting our unit about how the oceans affect our atmosphere and climate, so students will be able to take daily measurements, log wind speed and temperature, and compare their data to local forecasts. The wave visualizer kits will be used during this unit for students to see how waves in the ocean carry energy from one place to another. We will manipulate the slinkies and ropes inside the kits to model wavelength, amplitude, frequency, which are terms students were introduced to earlier in the year during our sound unit. The Glow Germ kit will be integrated into our climate change unit when we study how viruses around the world increase when temperatures around the world also increase. The kit will be used to view simulated germs under UV light, as well as learn about contamination and effective hygiene practices.\r\n\r\nDuring our oceans unit we will combine the anemometers with the wave kits for an interdisciplinary lab where the objective will be for students to connect that higher wind speeds correspond to larger wave amplitudes. Students will go outside to measure wind speeds around campus then return to the classroom to simulate how energy can produce waves in water and air using the slinky and rope. \r\n\r\nI am deeply grateful for your support. These resources spark curiosity, enable real scientific practice, and create memorable learning moments that students carry beyond the classroom. Thank you for investing in hands‑on science education and for giving my students these meaningful opportunities.","fullyFundedDate":1763571752090,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-weather-waves-wellness/9891937/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Weather, Waves & Wellness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Beckman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10334906_orig.jpg?crop=2544,2544,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761675875957","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/meganbeckman"},{"teacherId":10334906,"projectId":9862759,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for providing wobble chairs, stretchy bands, and floor cushions for our classroom! Your generosity has made flexible seating possible for every student and has already had a noticeable, positive impact on learning and classroom culture.\r\n\r\nWobble chairs are definitely students' favorite choice of seating! Students love being able to rock and wiggle on them to help them focus while still allowing controlled movement. We attached stretchy bands to chair legs so students who need subtle sensory input can quietly move their legs while working. It is always a funny moment when a student stretches just a little too far and it snaps back on them. The beautiful floor cushions help create inviting alternative workspaces for students. Many love to snuggle up with one or use it as back support while they are working. \r\n\r\nWhen I brought the new items into the room and opened up the boxes, the students were so excited! There were audible cheers and an immediate buzz of excitement. They spent the first few minutes trying out the wobble chairs and helping me set up the stretchy bands. Many had never tried these options before and now they have come to depend on these options to help get out their wiggles. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous support. These items are already making a meaningful difference in students' science learning. I appreciate your investment in a classroom where every student can find a comfortable, productive way to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1763155465007,"projectUrl":"project/switch-that-seat/9862759/","projectTitle":"Switch That Seat!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Beckman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10334906_orig.jpg?crop=2544,2544,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761675875957","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/meganbeckman"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_67277","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1359,"numTeachers":60,"percentFrplEligible":20,"percentAsian":37,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":35,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":91.3,"schoolId":67277,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Marshall Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Marshall Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/san-diego-unified-school-district/marshall-middle-school/67277"}
