When we first unveiled the new materials, the students burst into excitement there were curious glances whispers of \"What's new learning tools?\" and eager hands reaching in to explore. That moment immediately turned into an opportunity to teach: we explained that these weren't just fun gadgets, they are tools to help them focus, regulate their bodies, and learn better.\r\n\r\nSince their arrival, we've begun using these tools strategically during silent work longer reading sessions and transitions when sitting still and staying engaged tends to be harder. I observed a student who usually struggles to stay in his seat choose a quiet tactile ring gently rotate it while listening to instructions and then contribute without fidgeting distraction. This aligns with best-practice guidance: fidgets need to be implemented with clear guidelines and used as tools not toys to truly benefit learning.\r\n\r\nMoving forward our next steps are to monitor how each student uses the fidgets rotate in different types so novelty doesn't wear off and build student voice into the process. We'll introduce a \"fidget check in\" where students reflect on how the tool helped their focus and what they might need next. We'll also design a respectful sharing station so students take ownership of the tools choose appropriately and care for them. Thanks to your thoughtful support our students especially those from low income backgrounds with limited access now have the resources to engage more fully and confidently in our inclusive learning environment.","fullyFundedDate":1760730360335,"projectUrl":"project/fidget-to-focus-stress-relief-tools-for/9749143/","projectTitle":"Fidget to Focus: Stress Relief Tools for the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lese-Sauvajot","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7391287_orig.png?crop=278,278,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1688165656992","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mjlesesauvajot"},{"teacherId":10278117,"projectId":9756843,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of Nintendo Switch consoles to our Gaming Club! Before, students struggled to project over music or be heard in the back of the auditorium, which limited both their confidence and the audience's experience. Now, every student's voice is amplified clearly, giving them the ability to focus on performance skills—timing, expression, movement—rather than worrying about volume. This technology also teaches them real-world skills in stagecraft and professional communication, mirroring the tools used in live theatre and broadcasting.\r\n\r\nStudents are thrilled that their voices can finally reach the audience with clarity. They feel like true professionals when putting on the headsets, and it has elevated their sense of pride and ownership in performances. They love the ability to experiment with dynamics—speaking softly or singing powerfully—because they know their work will be heard.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who are naturally quiet or shy have especially benefitted. With the microphones, they no longer have to force their voices, and their confidence has soared. One student who used to hesitate during rehearsals now delivers lines with excitement because she knows the audience won't miss a word. One specific moment that stands out was during a small group \"functional communication\" activity. Students were working on using their communication devices to express at least one new fact about the video they just watched. With the snacks visible to the students, students were more eager to take turns, stay focused, and participate. All students were working nicely to share something about the academic topic. One student in particular shared and then independently, without prompting used their communication device to say, \"I want chips please.\" This type of functional communication is the goal - get basic needs met! This motivation gave us a moment to celebrate their effort.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the snacks, their faces lit up with excitement and curiosity. For many of them, it was more than just getting a treat—it was a signal that their hard work was being recognized. One student who usually struggles with participation eagerly participated in a collaborative conversation for the first time, simply because he knew there was a reward waiting. The immediate shift in attitude and focus was powerful to witness. He later shared, \"snacks really help me focus better.\"\r\n\r\nWe're currently working on a \"Personal Goal Challenge,\" where each student sets a weekly learning goal tailored to their individual needs—like using more complete sentences, staying on task for longer periods, or initiating peer interactions.
