One nice thing about the clipboards, is we were able to use them for activities I hadn't even considered. For example, one student needed to charge her Chromebook while she worked on her assignment, but the charger was not near a desk. She was able to charge her computer and used the clipboard to support. Also, we used them during our last class discussion on the Odyssey. Since we were sitting in a circle, students could use the clipboards to write notes.\r\nAnd, of course, high schoolers are always hungry, so the snacks are great motivators. I like to use them when I use formative assessments such as Kahoot or Gimkit. We appreciate you. Thank you again!","fullyFundedDate":1758812139249,"projectUrl":"project/essential-items-for-curious-and-hungry-h/9748300/","projectTitle":"Essential Items for Curious and Hungry High Schoolers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Roa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2485561_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1456542247278","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mroa"},{"teacherId":2485561,"projectId":9176679,"letterContent":"For this Donors Choose project I asked for snacks, a subscription to Flocabulary, and a gift card for Teachers Pay Teachers. \r\nHaving snacks available is the best way I've found to encourage participation. We have played a variety of games to review vocabulary and literary devices, from Blooket to Quizizz to Gimkit.\r\nWe watched a Flocabulary video about the Odyssey and I was surprised how engaged they were and even heard some of them singing along. This will help them immensely because they're working on a multi-disciplinary project. They use the text of the Odyssey as inspiration to build and design their own Greek trireme in their engineering class, then demonstrate their knowledge in math by calculating wind speeds etc. Having an extra layer of support like a supplemental video by Flocabulary really helps them gain further understanding and confidence.\r\nAgain, on behalf of my students, we greatly appreciate your monetary donations and support.","fullyFundedDate":1743382566208,"projectUrl":"project/essential-classroom-supplies-and-resourc/9176679/","projectTitle":"Essential Classroom Supplies and Resources for High School ELA","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Roa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2485561_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1456542247278","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mroa"},{"teacherId":2485561,"projectId":8844300,"letterContent":"Thank you very much for contributing to our Government Board Games unit. I ordered Constitution Quest, Election Night, and Monopoly: A House Divided. Luckily, the games arrived exactly on Election Day and my students were able to play when it was most meaningful. This has been such a successful unit, that students elect to come in during lunch to play. I love hearing the laughter and spontaneous conversations.\r\n\r\nI asked my students to explain what government and civics concepts were addressed while playing. Here are some of my favorites: \"We learned law terms like committing a felony.\" Another student said, \"We figured out how to steal states from candidates.\"\r\n\r\nFor the game Monopoly, A House Divided there was a Whitehouse and whenever someone had it, the rent doubled. Instead of buying houses and hotels, they had campaign headquarters that they could place in their states. Students said this game taught them to recognize which \"party had the biggest influence on the votes.\" \r\n\r\nThe Constitution Game comes with a copy of the constitution, but engaging with the text in this way makes it easier to acquire the content. They learned about historical facts and dates, as well as powers granted and denied.\r\n\r\nFor Election Night, the goal is to win states and tally electoral votes. The first person or team to earn 270 electoral votes wins. They learned that the electoral votes are apportioned to states every ten years based on the U.S. Census. One student noted, \"Getting Texas, Florida, California in the beginning makes you have a higher chance of getting to 270.\"\r\n\r\nThank you again for providing these future voters the opportunity to become more civically-minded.","fullyFundedDate":1730416266753,"projectUrl":"project/board-games-to-teach-government-and-civi/8844300/","projectTitle":"Board Games to Teach Government and Civics","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Roa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2485561_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1456542247278","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mroa"},{"teacherId":2485561,"projectId":8971987,"letterContent":"We played our first tournament in my freshman English class. I asked them to keep track of points and words created. Since we're always studying Greek and Latin prefixes and suffixes, they were encouraged to add those word parts as a strategy to extend a word and earn additional points. I also offered extra credit if they could create a word from our poetry unit, and two students were able to do that! I also purchased Scrabble dictionaries and I loved seeing them thumb through the dictionary. I think it's kind of a lost art of flipping through pages when it's so easy just to Google. \r\n\r\nThank you for contributing to this endeavor. I believe students still need opportunities to engage with their peers that are spontaneous and educational.
