The students didn't know I was asking for the supplies, and they were both excited and surprised when boxes of headphones and clipboards showed up.\r\n While many students have their own headphones, we have families who cannot afford to \"send an extra pair\" to school. Of course there are those who simply forget them or who want to use the nice new headphones! Either way, the class set of headphones makes it easy to assign quiet online work to a few students or even the whole class.\r\n The clipboards gave us the freedom to take our work outside! We were studying personification and went out to find things around the school to use as examples. It was great to see students really looking at their world in a different way. It may look a little chaotic with 36 kiddos laying on the floor, sitting on their yoga ball, or scattered in groups on stools, but not having desks actually helps keep them relaxed and focused.\r\n\r\nThey were SO excited when they saw all our new seating! Backrest pillows, new (non-wobbly) stools, and another yoga ball to replace some bean bag chairs that were old and leaking. They are really good about taking turns and sharing the seating.\r\n\r\nNext year I will continue with flexible seating and plan to add a few more items to help my students feel that they are worth \"fancy\" furniture and that they are trusted to make mature choices. I have used my new materials to create and add new morning centers for my youngest students. These centers are literacy and STEM based. \r\n My students have been very engaged with the new materials and are already learning and mastering new concepts! I have been working with one student in particular on learning colors and shapes. Just yesterday for the first time she successfully matched all colors and shapes in her \"busy book\" and this was something she had not done before. We are now moving on to letter identification and matching. This is one of her yearly goals and with the my new materials I am confident she will master this skill as well!\r\n My new resources also included many different art supplies my classroom was missing. We have used these new materials to complete many full group art projects over the last few weeks. I am able to send home these projects for their parents to enjoy and decorate my classroom with them!
